I meant to add, this can all be avoided by WGT having some due diligence and scanning their ads more carefully before allowing them to be displayed on their public website.

After Weather.com and eBay.com ran into the same problem with their ads, they were very very careful about posting an ad on their public site without deeply scanning it first....it's just bad business to NOT scan them and scrutinize them before subjecting your customers to that kind of stuff.

Golden rule: always disable (any) AV when playing games.

DON'T DISABLE AV.  As a person that has been in IT for many many many years, I don't suggest that you disable AV.

And for all you MAC lovers, MAC sucks.  GL trying to play any of the mainstream PC games on the market right now, won't work on your MAC!  Apple FTL!

    1. You look like your 20 years old. So "many many many" years is obviously an overstatement.

    2. Mainstream PC games are not made to be played on a MAC. You dont need to be even a remotely serious gamer to know that. We dont need to get in a MAC/PC battle in this forum. But...its quite obvious in this discussion and for this game we are talking about. Its clearly better to have a MAC. You dont deal with AV anything.

yep i had that happen the other day in the middle of a round between holes.. sounds like an ad that opens up a page.. this antivirus 2012.. then does a fake scan type page.

today i go to wgt.com and it closes the golf game window and loads up this page.. and got the url

THANKS!!!  I get that alot....which means when I turn 50, I will look 32.  Thanks for the compliment.

And I would consider 16 years to be MANY MANY years....overstatement NOT!

LOL, not made to be played on a MAC!!! good excuse!  No it's not made for a MAC because the devs don't wanna make it for a MAC cause MAC's have no market in that arena, no money for the game and they suck, so why waste the time dev a game for them when it will be a total loss.

And I agree, you don't wanna get into a MAC/Windows discussion.

I have been attacked by this same virus, I have been fighting to get rid of it for three days to no avail. It started right after WGT survey. Once a window opened telling me I should report it to WGT. I think I have gotten rid of it but a couple of hours later it happens again. Anyone have ideas on how to get rid of it ? Bad enough that many many times Ive taken surveys and not got paid, but now a virus!! Come on WGT. Make these people accountable. I still need ideas on how to get rid of it. This is going to cost money I could have used to buy equipment!!!

Take my age, divide by 2 and you get 27 years working in IT.

Also playing games for about 36 years, believe me i never encountered any problem by switching off my AV.

I know, the general advice is not to switch it off, but i prefer speed above anything else.

And if I get a virus, no big deal. I’m safe by my daily backup system recovery from Symantec's BESR.

OHHHH!  I see why you switch off your AV.  Your still running Symantec.  Seems that all your years in IT hasn't taught you anything.

Symantec is #1 useless, catches mostly nothing and most malicious code is written specifically to go around Symantec products cause it is the most widely used AV.

#2 it is the biggest hog of resources of any AV on the market, I see why you disable it.....It's like a virus in itself because it uses so many resources from your PC.

And I wouldn't advise anyone to switch off their AV, not something that someone in IT, especially in IT as many years as you claim, should be suggesting.

And I agree, if I get a virus, no big deal, easy as *** to remove....but for a lot of people it isn't so easy.  There are a majority of people on the net these days that don't know much about PC's and removing viruses without help from someone is impossible for those people, hence why I don't think it should be suggested.

Scrap that Symantec and go get a real AV client....you won't have to turn it off to play games, and when you do, you won't notice a difference because there are many AV out there no that aren't very resource intensive, like the hog of all Symantec products.

I sent an email to WGT regarding this issue, but of course I haven't heard anything back from them.

You would think an issue this big and sensitive to your community that keeps you running your business would be of more importance to them.

But they are proving that it isn't.  F our customers....our ads mean more to us, is exactly what WGT is saying.
