Personally I think WGT have it about right with the iron's and wedges level wise. Arguably there is small room for improvement with the G20 iron's by maybe increasing the 3 iron distance or perhaps an extra, slightly more expensive set doing that. I think that would still keep the L79 Bladez and L90 R11s iron's relevant whilst not making scoring any easier than it is. I think most would agree we certainly do not want anything that makes scoring easier than the Bladez / R11s allow. Anyway iron and wedge wise though things look about right. I know people often ask for more but, no offense to them, I have not seen a specific solution offered, bearing in mind what is already on offer.
Woods wise though the Pro Shop becomes a shambles higher up talking just Legend+. The main problem is that the level's get way far apart and any new player Legend sees this and think get stuffed. Partly lower level Legends (happens in the 60s these days often enough) might be happier competing in a new tier as there is no way (with sensible reasoning applied) that the top clubs will go down there.
That still leaves a problem in the L80s. Driver wise the G20 is good but the next step up is the R11 which adds only slight extra distance (and not in all conditions), but in a real risk / reward fashion for most. Some are better than other's with the R11, but talking just enjoyment all then look at the R11S at WAY OFF L94 which is not so risk / reward and better all round. The R1 is a great club, but taking nothing away from it is not some game changing bomb compared to the R11S or even R11. I think the R11 is now past it's shelf life and should be phased out for something a little more forgiving bearing in mind the attributes of the G20 / R11S. Something else could easily replace it whilst still keeping the G20 and R11S relevant. After the current (great stuff) promotion ends I think the R11S should then be moved to L92 and the R1 to L95. Everything would be relevant and sell I think whilst still keeping player's interest in basic offering's. Any specials, like the current R1 promotion, are received well and should be encouraged.
3 wood wise? Again I do not think WGT are all far off levels wise. The G20 3 wood is good but IMHO opinion the R11S has it, and at the least offers a good alternative. As a L93 player I would like the L95 one I think for the long Par 3s if it holds the better, but the L85 is good for now. Again any special promotion's should happen now and then.
I think after this a good point is that WGT have generally dropped the ball on making people strive to do better. Legend now means not much and that is a shame. I think that new lower level tier would allow good competition for talented people learning the tips, and no risk of sandbaggiing if it converted to full Legend at a given say L79 and/OR a certain average. Think of all the forum talk for the talented few that achieve full Legend before L79 under that system. Still on the topic of encouraging of making people strive for more (therefore play more from a business perspective) would be to open everything up for TL which is still not easy to get, and nor should it be. Being TL does not, in itself, make you some top player but it is a good achievement and so again should be actively seen to be being encouraged.
Off topic a little and I have said this elsewhere over time in pieces, but knowing the mods read stuff wanted to put it down succinctly:)
EDIT: Maybe if the mods remind the brass this is not meant to be some slog to earn a Green Beret (equipment wise). It's a computer game mostly played for fun. Maybe the mods disagree?
