    oneeyedjohn:

That's pretty good putting CD, despite the one hiccup.

Thanks John. I'm still steamed about the round though.  I avoided the 3 putt through the first three rounds then effed it up after getting royally pissed during the game.

    Well, what can I say??!

Teeing off after a 10hr night shift followed by a 3hr drive home then 3 1/2 hrs sleep is not a good start, but we had to get played and CD was green so I invited.

But then it all went pair shaped......REALLY pair shaped.

I honestly lost interest after 7 holes and the wind was just wrong.

A handfull of big WTF moments thrown in and I just wanted to get outa there!

Anyway CD played a fine round considering and well done to him.

I was just hitting the ball forward in a trance from the 10th onward.

Hey ho and lets do it again sometime......not too soon though!

Excellent tourney Corwyn and CD, once again. Sorry I couldn't make a fight of the last round but well done everyone.

P.S. I have green and fairway shots if required....

    Hey Neil,

Post them if you want otherwise I vouch for you. I know you have very little time to spare.

    Corwyn:

I do feel responsible for a stupid time penalty Ben suffered on #17, when I chose a very inappropriate time to ask if he'd gotten screenshots... so his score is pending a possible waive of that penalty shot (if he'll accept my effort to remove the penalty... he's being very magnanimous about it).

How could Ben have been penalized a stroke for only 1 late time on the 90 second clock? I thought it gave 2 warnings then on the 3rd, a penalty stroke?

It's one warning, and I had one earlier when I was babbling away about nothing and lost track of time.  Another reason why I should take the penalty.

Too bad about your winds, CD.  Corwyn and I had ideal winds, with one or the other reaching every green except for 12, which is never unreachable.  We just missed.

And then there's your 3-putt.  That's just too damn bad.  I didn't make it either, and I really wanted to get through all 72!

When I was a bloke  two years ago, I used to get confused about whose shot it was as there were so many similar avatars. I used to play a lot of AS games and sometimes I would just sit motionless in front of the screen waiting for something to happen, then suddenly realising it was my shot.

Must have been very annoying for my partners.

However since the 'change' I have that problem no more.

Played my 4th round with hyena (David ) yesterday. Had a great time despite how crappy I played.

Hats off to Corwyn and Cerino for a top notch run tourney. Very challenging and humiliating but was still great to be a part in.

My thoughts are with Mac right now, in this tough time.

Looks like slayer and I were not able to meet up on Sunday unfortunately.  I'm not sure what slayer's schedule will be like on Monday, however I don't have anything scheduled at all and I should have access to a PC with stable internet from around 9:00am Central time to 5:30pm Central time, and again from 9:00pm Central time until whenever.  I'm not sure if slayer and I are the only ones who haven't yet finished, but I really enjoyed the first 3 rounds of Tough It Out and I'd hate to have to take a DQ now.

Hopefully either slayer and I can meet up on Monday, or we each can get a marker so we can turn in a score.  Merion is a tough course, but I'm looking forward to taking my shot at it.

    Corwyn:
(Actually, I'd be curious to hear how many of you have focussed exclusively on starters during this tourney, and how many are going back-and-forth all the time: I've played nothing else for a month, and I suspect it's the only way to really get used to the meter speed).

I played only the Starters except for Sept. 28th-30th (if I recall correctly) when I tried to better my Cabo Del Sol Skill Challenge score, which I failed to do.  Perhaps that is another reason why I scored so badly on Olympic, as I didn't have as much practice on it as I would have otherwise.  I also did a Best of Putting, and I only used the Starter Putter (I've only used the Starter Putter on my BoP scores...and yes that is partly because of all the people I've read on the forums who frown upon wedging on the greens in BoP. Not that I have anything against those who "Wedge-It-Out."  I don't. However, I tend to agree with those who are displeased with wedges, or drivers, on the green in BoP).

While I'm on putting, I'd like to ask advice about a good putter to buy.  I think that using the Starter Putter will not be best at teaching me how to read greens.  In fact, it probably has already done huge damage to my "green reading literacy" because even a dinged putt can deviate offline (a lot more than the premium putters) and cause me to think I misread the putt when I actually read it perfectly.

It's similar to teaching a toddler a language and changing accents or consistently stuttering/mispronouncing words from a book both of you are reading together - becoming literate will probably take longer than with a more precise reader.  First the child should become literate/fluent with an unchanging single standard, then the child can properly converse with and recognize deviations/impreciseness such as mispronunciations or heavy brogues without being confused and then propagating the misuse.  All that slang, sarcasm, and "textese" (my neologism for texting shorthand which comes from words such as "legalese" and "journalese") can cause lots of literacy problems for those who don't yet understand.  Who knows how many times I've confused myself because of the imprecision of the Starter Putter.  I now think I should have bought a more precise putter a while back.

My putting style?  I'm an "off-ding putter" when I'm just playing lackadaisically for xp points and relaxation because I try to play very fast and don't want to spend time reading both views and pulling out the chipper too.  But, when I want to read a putt thoroughly, I usually become a "ding-putter."

    Corwyn:
Would anyone be up for such a challenge!?

As for any event with Starters and UELs that is for fun and brain challenging such as T-I-O III or Starters from the black tees, I certainly like the concept.  It's more enjoyable when endeavoring to accomplish an objective with other (non quitting!) good-natured people.  Playing alone can be mind-numbing.

If you or anyone is in desperate need of a marker, I would be happy to mark.  If my status is blue with "ready for stroke play", that means anyone can invite me - I'm ready to mark.

    Thanks,
    JMan

I would certainly recommend the lvl 55 Rossa... That said, it's the only 'fancy putter' I've ever had, but definitely a lot more reliable than the starter.

    CerinoDevoti:
Neil and I got our round played but neither of us were left very happy about it. We had wind in our faces on the entire front 9 and all but 2 holes on the back.

So sorry to hear of your guys tough breaks with the wind. Ben and I definitely got lucky with our windset, although we too had some combos I'd never seen in practice. I was very much hoping the top 4 would shake out to a tighter finish, but I'm afraid that the challenges of scheduling may have played their part. Perhaps that's yet another factor in why TIO is the hardest test there is!

Thanks JMan, Tom, OneEye, Dazza, and everyone else who's given feedback on the possible future tourneys idea (please keep it coming, folks!). I'm imagining a future schedule for uneven starters events that might include one or two TIO's a year in this format (4 different courses, with tough but manageable tees); perhaps a US Open with 4 rounds at the new course (played soon after the course becomes available in practice mode); and at least one special event (e.g. a pairs, or team tourney). I do find Tom's idea of a weekly league intriguing but speaking for myself would really struggle with the constant club-set changing.

I also want to lobby hard for WGT to create a proper unevens Tour or, failing that, Monthly Special Invitationals. I think the interest is there at this point, and more and more people are getting bored of the flat-lie game.

Inigo, we certainly don't want any more WDs now that everyone has come so far in the tourney!!!

Here's another update of where we stand.

Today is the last official day of the tournament, Monday 14th... but I am willing to go another day if needed.

(I have very limited time online at the weekend and today is also a school holiday, so I won't be able to check PMs and the forum much. It's great to see that the offers of marking are out there, so please, if you do still need to get your round in, don't rely on PM responses to me alone... but do post here in the thread with your times. Thanks!)
