ROW is almost there, 1 more win with 5 matches to go and the tournament is done.

For the looks it seems like Wes & I (we will play the last match of the tournament) will play mainly for the fun of it.....lol

    GO ROW GO!!!!!!

Thanks for pointing that out Eric. IF the schedule happens as it should, I should be playing for the win this evening in about 2- 3 hours time. Against bhoese!! of all players!!

no pressure, all in good fun, can't wait to play.

Yes, that's right Jon... you could have the honor of the winning point*, but I'd expect Ben to fight you all the way!

Should be a cracking match! Best of luck to you both.

[Note: even if the competition is decided early, I do hope players will fulfill the remaining matches. It would be sad to have it end incomplete, so please go out and have fun in the last match]

    ----------------------------------

As the competition draws to a close, I'd love to get some feedback before everyone disappears, both about this competition and about improvements for the future.

    1. What worked and didn't work about the tourney?

    2. Are you in favor of self-selection, or a qualification process?

    3. How about the playing format? Did Worst-Ball work as a viable alternative to Alt Shot? And would it have been better to match exactly the Ryder Cup with 8 matches of each four player format, even though that would have meant selections and some people playing more than others?

    4. Any suggestions on how to get better communication? (A fully-functioning multi-friend PM system would sure have helped, for instance) Is it inevitable that some players just won't follow the thread, or understand time zones/the instructions? What more could be done?

    5. How about the timeframe? To me, it feels possibly too protracted... Could it work as a more intensive event, say over 7-10 days (with players setting time aside and being more dedicated to the event)

As for the future, I can certainly see two possibilities ahead: 1. an Uneven Starters Ryder Cup. Any takers for that? 2. A qualifiers-only 'fancy clubs' version at Pinehurst once it becomes available. Who amongst you would want to play in that?!

Thanks in advance for your thoughts... and thanks for being part of the tourney!

    TarheelsRule:

Tough match for Jean, he was having computer and / or mouse issues from the start which cost him several holes.  He chose to give up the match on the 8th hole.  Thanks for letting me play in the competition, how we can give it a go again Jean.

    Thanks Williams!

I had a very bad luck : the pointer of my mouse was wrong!!! I cannot believe it... It seems impossible!!! But all is like that in this moment ( for exemple, tuesday I played Mark6, the HK lottery, my numbers were 6 9 19 23 26 27 and the result was 7 10 24 25 27 29 and joker 19, so I loose around 10 000 $ for 4 numbers just one different!!!)... With my new mouse, this morning, just awake, I shot 27 in BPB B9 wk7 tourney and 29 in Oakmont B9 wk7...

However, even with a good mouse, I am pretty not sure I can win, because you played very well, and I am sorry for you that I cannot play anymore, but like you saw, I missed too many easy shots (especially the 2 putts less than 3 ft long (!!!) and the first stroke when I went in the tree with the wind from right to left and "dinging" the shot!!!) and it wasn't useful I continue like that...

I hope we can meet again...

    Bravo for your win!

    Friendly

    Jean

The pressure is off our remaining players, regrettably.

Jon played a great game.  It was a tense competition, but terrific fun.  I really enjoyed playing against Jon.  He made every shot count.

I really thought I had him when I stuck my approach to gimme range on 14, but he came through with an incredible clutch birdie putt, followed by another on 15 and a dart on 16, where I couldn't convert a makeable mild uphill bender.

I blew it on 17 with a penalty stroke when, as the clock wound down, I convinced myself that I was in the wrong meter, when I wasn't.  I always double-check the scale when I'm holding the meter at my desired power, and I just had a brain fart and decided that the 50 scale was wrong, and I needed to be on the 20 scale.   By the time I figured it out and changed back it was too late.  It was a lousy finish to a fine match.  Still, I'm sure I would have needed an unlikely birdie on 18 for the AS, since there's no way that Jon would have bogeyed.  He was way too hot.

Oh, what a shame for the match to end in such a fashion. Something similar happened in Shiner's tourney, didn't it... ? That darn 17th at Merion, aarrgghh! Sorry to hear that Ben...

... but what a match! It sounds as if you two were answering birdie with birdie, and never more than a hole in it until the end. Any ideas on what your hole-by-hole scores were? I'm very curious to get an idea what you two shot...

So, as Ben says, the pressure is off. Jon's point wins the inaugural Uneven Lies Ryder Cup for the ROW Team!!! Congratulations to Jon and to the whole team!!!

There are still 4 matches left to decide the final score. Next up is scheduled to be Marc and Rock, followed by Jim and myself, all on Saturday, with Darren and Devon, and Eric and Wes set to play Sunday.

Overall Series Score: Team ROW: 12.5  |  Team USA: 7.5

    Corwyn

First of all, great win Jon :-). You got the last point for ROW!....felicidades marica jajaja!!!

As for Corwyn and the organisation. Corwyn M8, what else can I tell you that has not been already said about you and your dedication to arrange GREAT tournaments???!!!...RUN FOR PRESIDENT M8!

I am simply speechless to see the amount of effort & dedication to ANY tournament you are involve in...simply amazing. Thank you very much for such

    Uneven Lies Ryder Cup!!!

I hope we all come with suggestions soon, I will.

    Just mention fast a couple:

    - Nice graphic & friendly design of the Leaderboard in very first post

    - Perhaps the chance to stream some of the matches

    - Qualifying session. I suppose more & more players would be interesting on participating for the next time.

    ...more to come

    Eric

Apologies to those still to play for my premature thoughts, but if I don't post now I will forget ;-)

    1. What worked and didn't work about the tourney?

Everything works well if people are considerate, communicative, and turn up when they say they will. Taking sign-ups for late Feb and then playing late Jan could have been problematic, but thanks to the great organisation it all worked out.

    2. Are you in favor of self-selection, or a qualification process?

I'm in favour of putting yourself forward, but I'd prefer the captains to have some discretion about who they pick. Ideally you want the best two teams from those available facing off against each other, which does not happen if you guarantee places due to first-come-first-served.

    3. How about the playing format? Did Worst-Ball work as a viable alternative to Alt Shot? And would it have been better to match exactly the Ryder Cup with 8 matches of each four player format, even though that would have meant selections and some people playing more than others?

Didn't play the Worst-ball, but seems to have worked fine. If you don't play the full teams in each round then the captains have more work to do deciding who to pick and juggling availibility. This might be too big an ask - the simpler it is for everyone the better.

    4. Any suggestions on how to get better communication? (A fully-functioning multi-friend PM system would sure have helped, for instance) Is it inevitable that some players just won't follow the thread, or understand time zones/the instructions? What more could be done?

Harass WGT to get the multi-messaging working. Always put any tournament info on the first page so players don't have to follow the thread all the way through - eg. message asking if players could play late Jan instead of late Feb was on page 5 or 6.

    5. How about the timeframe? To me, it feels possibly too protracted... Could it work as a more intensive event, say over 7-10 days (with players setting time aside and being more dedicated to the event)

Three weeks is fine, unless overseeing the organisation for this length of time is too much. If a player wants their tournament to be over more quickly, they can play the last day of the first week, midweek, then the first day of the final week and they're done in 8 days.

    > As for the future, I can certainly see two possibilities ahead: 1. an Uneven Starters Ryder Cup. Any takers for that? 2. A qualifiers-only 'fancy clubs' version at Pinehurst once it becomes available. Who amongst you would want to play in that?!

    1. No - hate that starter putter too much!! 2. Sure, if available.

    > Thanks in advance for your thoughts... and thanks for being part of the tourney!

And thanks for another wonderfully run event, Corwyn. Always a pleasure.

WOW, is allI can say about my match with Ben. WAs a tough match and I was sweating the whole way through.  I enjoyed the match a lot and ben is a great player. I definitely left some stuff on teh table early in the match and with Ben's great play that came back to bite me and I had to work very hard to comeback.

As Ben was, I was rather dissappointed it ended as it did. Would have been much more entertaining to go to 18 1up and have to play the final hole for the win/tie

As for my scores as far as I can remember them.

1 P( Ben Bogeyed hit drive in bunker, first hole jitters i suspect), 2 B, missed eagle putt, 3 par, 6 par, 7  would have been par, 8 par, 9 Birdie, 10 i think we both birdied, 11 i made par, burned edge for bird, 12 par, 13 made a 13 ft for bird to save hole, 14 made another 10+ ft to save hole, 15 birdie, 16 hit that dart to 3 feet and made bird, 17 par and Ben would have parred without the penalty

As for the tourney I think it was run amazingly well and I was pleasantly suprised how well things did go,especially in the team matches. Kudos to you Corwyn for taking that on and making this happen and to the Captains as well for their time, and everyone else for participating and showing up and playing, I enjoyed it

I think qualification is only needed when you have a huge turnout. Seems this time around there were just enough people to make it happen. If there were more then I think you need to do qualifiers to make it fair.  As far as match pairings I think you did it as its done in real life, so all good there. I know slightly modified but it has to be that way as we have schedules to consider

I think worst ball was a good alternative to alt shot. Can only hope the WGT will add UEL to alt shot

I think having a messaging system  would be fantastic. Even one you could set a group up in, like a chat room that e1 can log into. Challenge here is if all involved would be willing to download and use such software etc. Would be nice if WGT just had some kind of  chat client we could use from the WGT page. Not sure much more could be done as far as getting people the info. You posted on the thread, sent pms, told the players to send pms to each other.  All that is left is callling them or going to their house, which is a bit much. If you can't follow a thread and read a pm that lays out all instructions as you did Corwyn, then you probably shouldn't be playing in WGT at all, let a lone a community based event like this.

I felt the time frame was fair. Sure faster would be nicer, but as we saw some peoples schedules only overlapped once per week, especially with team events. Seeing as virtual golfing isn't our profession, well at least not for most of us, we all have lives outside of here, work and family and playing other WGT events. So giving a week to complete each part of the event, I think was a fair amount of time. More time would be too much I think and less time I think would be good but I don't think you would get all the matches completed unless you had a lot bigger teams with more alternates, with alternates on standby for just about every match.

I would be open to both suggested events. I agree with mags not abig fan of starter kit, but I woul give it a shot and certainly would do an UEL on pinehurst when it arrives

Again Great job. Had a blast. Good luck to those who have matches remaining
