Yes please,me too.I assume the higher the number the quicker the green.....but what was the norm before you changed it? Was say 5 the average before? Shouldn't game changes be part of the news section."New FAQ's" would be a good heading.....no need to trawl through the forums then.Just a thought.

That's right.. I think champ is 13 or 14... and the rest in between. The actual speed was not adjustment, just the display values are more specific.

But why the need for numbers after the speed description ?

Do they change anything in the actual speed of the green ?

Most people agree that green speeds can vary a little.  I guess that shows more in RG type stuff, but it's always worth bearing in mind.

I always go firm with me first putt (where possible), and try to take a view from there anyway.

EDIT: FWIW I played a RR and a free weekly.  The reading I got played just the same as I would expect (e.g. same as ever thinking normal speed I see).  If I ever see different I would know to look out.  It's got to be a positive thing.  Also just noted YJs post below which is a useful guide to have too.

Now we have numbers though in theory you will be able to see if something other than your usual is up.

FYI a link explaining stimpmeter (if that was also your point)

Yes. After reading Jim's link this should make sense.  WGT-2010

Last, but not least, the green speeds on WGT have been adjusted for the Legend and Tour Master Tiers.  The greenskeeper has been asked to tame his inner demons and save the championship green speeds for special events. Here are the general guidelines we have given the greenskeeper for regular play (actual green performance may vary):

    Tier          Green Speed Stimpmetered

    Hack               7.9

    Amateur         7.9

    Pro                  9.0

    Tour Pro         10.0

    Master            10.0

    Tour Master    11.0

    Legend            12.0

Is there a number of Stimpmeter ratings for each Green Speed.

I know there is Tourny-12, which is the fastest Tourny speed...   could there be a Tourny 11 or 10.

There is a Champ-13 which is the slowest.  What was the Speed of Shoe's special comp, that was super fast....lol

i know what a stimpmeter does but the speed description and number dont make sense ?

im a legend but the number isnt always 12. on slow its 7.5. Champ it's 13.

I understand in group stroke play or Alt shot, the speed is set to the highest level players green speed.

But in a Tournament, when set to slow, whats the point of having a number beside it when i know the speed is SLOW ?

The numbers are confusing and seem to bear no relevance at all to game play.

waste of time if you ask me. I bet many others will feel the same too.

If there are different levels of speed for different levels, then thats fair enough.

Dont you think an explanation from WGT as to what this all means, before they roll it out, would have helped ??

In RG tourneys  for example most people agree green speeds vary within certain old standards. E.G. Legend Tourney may be 12 one day, but in reality 12.5 the next.  Basically don't assume stimps do not vary within a giving old broad spectrum measurement.

How accurate the new readings are remains to be seen, but in theory it's a good thing.  For clarity "Champ Speed" can be much nearer Legend one day and faster than (what most consider) Champ the next, and so on.  I think a mod once said there are maybe 5 speeds used within Champ, and so theory is now we see that upfront.

    None of this is new.

Once all that is understood it is therefore not a waste of time at all if the readings are real.
