  Ahh, Links ... used to kill time at work over that game in the mid-'90s sometime. Never came close to mastering it, but it didn't quite hold me like WGT does. Can still picture some of the courses: Riviera Country Club (OJ's old course, I believe), with a bunker right in the middle of one of the greens, that desert course Bighorn, Firestone... Never did care for the basic click action involved in striking the ball, but the pits was that pushing and pulling the mouse-based action ... uggh.

  Puzzled why the game died. It seemed like a natural franchise that could have been improved with computing speed and all the other developments.

  Maybe it was done in by the endless mulligans and gimmes.

  If memory serves, it was looking for the game online a little nostalgically that caused me to stumble upon WGT instead.

  Links died because of EA Sports. And I came upon WGT the exact same way, in fact I had links 2003 ready to install when I found this site. Wasn't and still am not sure it would even run on my Win7 64 bit OS.  Never got round to installing it.

  I already had it installed when I discovered this too. I had actually signed up a long time ago when it was this lame little 3 hole CTTH that took 10 minutes to get bored with. I never stayed with it and rediscovered it just before BPB came out. Game over-addiction on. LOL

  I did fire up Links a while ago to do a little remembering and after 3 holes I'd had enough. It just doesn't compare any more.

  Yes, Devil's Island, the fantasy course. Crazy slopes, nowhere to land the ball. Pebble Beach on acid. Driving through the rigging of pirate ships and what not. Very weird. Ultimately, a bad trip.

    Also played Links for a while...  FtG_Carpetman at that time. Still have a ton of courses on disk.  The thing I wish WGT would include that Links had was the ability to practice swing or address the ball.  could always back away from ball and take a few practice and clicks on snap before you address ball and hit away.
