just speak what you want to type, and it types it FOR you

That's definitely no good. I assure you I can type a lot faster than I can speak. Also, if I actually had to say out loud all the things I've ever written, I think that would give me some suicidal ideas.

If you like to play and not chat, why play multiplayer at all, to merely watch?

Yes, jay. I like to watch. It allows me appreciation of what the other player(s) have done and what they may wish to do next. I am robbed of this appreciation while looking at my keyboard.

If you can truly type faster than you can speak, you are DEFINITELY in the minority, lol, and there are a lot of people that have a lot of typing efficiency to learn from ya!

Well I must say I am a little surprised that the response here shows that many people feel the same not just a couple, probably still the minority but probably more than I thought for sure and maybe judging from the response a guess at 15 - 20% on the site might not be too far off.

I find it especially hard to learn anything from only watching since the other persons meter is not shown, spin on the ball etc.  I do wish these things were there AND I could ask questions/chat, maybe one day, much needed in the replay too.

Without the chat I'm just not willing to accept the added time trade-off but if I could see some of the things I mentioned that could change.

Looking at the keyboard is always a mistake and waste of time. Touch-typing is an essential skill nowadays, although many don't realize this. If someone is not willing to sacrifice the rather modest time of several months to learn to touch-type, he/she will eventually lose lots MORE time throughout the rest of their lives by having to look at the keyboard while typing.

It's like running with chains on one's feet, while chatting without looking at the keyboard gives you perfect freedom, while also being less intrusive than direct voice chat over Skype.

PS: I don't understand Jay's point at all. Even multi-player rounds without any chat make perfect sense, because you can still compete with the other player(s), compare your shots with theirs, etc. Chat is really only secondary and not necessary in multi-player rounds.

Good point, I am very competitive and missed this viewpoint for some reason.  I guess I just don't like the added time of playing with other people in general and only do it for the ability to shoot the breeze while playing (and like I mentioned watching also does nothing for me since so much info is missing from the OP shots).

I'm very competitive though and can see how if someone isn't that big on chatting but still competitive, would want to play multiplayer with no chat.

Enough people have asked for the option, hopefully they will add 'turn off chat' for those that want it.

I'm a little lost too at least as far as a potential option to turn the chat off. Clicking the chat option button already hides the chat window, and if someone wishes to NOT chat, isn't this really all they need to do, is hide the chat window? Just seems to me that the functionality is already there for those who wish to use it, and those who don't.

That is true VHL, though the annoying flashing orange window would bother some but for the most part you are exactly right, no one HAS to chat or even look at the window at all.
