    nyctc7:

Thanks chris5214, I have been very impressed so far by the willingness and courtesy of the more experienced players to give good advice and encouragement to newcomers like myself (though I registered in December 2011, I only actually started playing  5 weeks ago).

Shot a 71 on Olympic yesterday (with the Raptures) but not the tournament speed greens. Considering I hit a tree on two holes I think I did well. This is a course where you can really see how you need to be good with the fairway woods and the longest irons 200+ yds, especially once you start hitting from the longer tees! At that point I can see how the Raptures wouldn't cut it anymore, unless they offer a version above L48, which I tend to doubt as aren't they in real life considered game improvement clubs, not clubs once you become a great player.

Crosswind affects the G20's much more than the Raptures, I think. Right now with med/high traj. I probably move the pointer one to a few yards when at or below 10mph, depending on the angle of the wind and how far the shot is. Around 15 mph significantly more. Above 15mph move the pointer AND hit the shot early/late depending on wind direction. I also find with the Raptures that below 15mph a direct crosswind (direct meaning the arrow is at 90 or 270 degrees) doesn't significantly affect my distance calculation (even though you'd think it would). Above 15mph I get confused as I've both had yards lost or gained with a direct crosswind.

Any comments about crosswind , especially blowing directly left or right, with the high loft G20's?

    Again, thanks!

High loft keeps the ball in the air longer so the crosswinds have a greater effect on shots. Practice rounds are where I work on those issues with the wind set all the way up.

Backspin is King. Gotta use it with the longer irons or they won't hold regardless of what clubs we use. I enjoyed playing with the Raptures for playing run up shots at certain courses like St A or St G. For that they work great but uphill shots to pins on like CCC or BPB they just don't get er done.

Hey Cerino .. u really got me salivating over those Lvl 83 G20's now .. can't wait to get there .. i'm curious about the fractionally higher mtr speed versus fractionally more forgiveness & precision .. i'm hoping for a seamless transition, but i'll do couple of practise rounds with them 1st ..

Within a day the meter difference went away.I do find the precision to be better than a half a point better. The forgiveness isn't much different at all. Still gotta ding. I'm making a run at Legend and these sticks work great for me. The folks who use the R11's are playing better performing clubs but I just can't get used to the meter speed. Even with the Nike or Cally I just can't keep up wih the meter.

Best to ya and hit em straight and have fun.

SGTBilko: the factor for the wind is is a bit more than just halving it. The formula is (distance x wind factor percentage) +/- distance = shot

Thx for the input SGT .. always willing to learn somtin' new

I have to add though that my approach to wind is somewhat more refined than the example i used .. i will list them below and would like ur comments & insights:

    - any shot under 100 yds with wind 10mph or less, i add half of wind velocity in yrd'ge

    - shots 100yds + up to 180yds with velocity of 10-12mph or less i add about 60% of velocity in yrd'ge

    - winds 13-15mph i'll add about 65% of velocity in yrd'ge

    - winds 16-20mph, mid- to long range shot, i'll ad about 70-75% of velocity in yrd'ge

    (these are for aggregate headwinds)

for tailwinds i'd use more or less the reverse, except if its longish range shot with winds in excess of 15 mph from behind i may take off about 80% of velocity in yrd'ge .. plus, depending on range & elevation, adjust backwards for a bit off roll

when i'm very close to the hole with strongish winds, lets say 50-60yrds, i would add/subtract less than 50% of velocity in yrd'ge

Cerino: anything on Lvl 83 G20 stoppoing power compared to Lvl 59 ? i read a post (can't remember which thread) where someone said that feel that the Lvl 83 G20 stops the ball even better than the Lvl 59's .. What ur opinion ?

Oh they absolutely stop the ball better. I play a lot of practice rounds with the free range ball not to waste hits on good Calleys and the L83 G20's even stop the freebie very well through the mid irons. I've backed up 7 iron approach shots with the 83's and Calley balls.

Frankly, I just love these clubs.  I'm still TM but I practice a lot from the Championship tees with the free ball and can pretty much shoot under par at all the courses with these sticks .With my inability to hit the ding with Taylormade clubs, I think I've reached the end of my club buying here.

i'm one of those who do the math on every approach shot to the green .. elevation, wind & b/spin .. it works perfectly for me, but that is my nature .. i use high lofted clubs (G20's) cause they have substantially more stopping power than med trajectory clubs, but again, that is the nature of my game .. my aim on apprach shots is to put the ball on top of the hole and stop it where it touches down .. if that's what you wanna do, forget about the med tracjectory clubs .. the Driver is ok though, use it myself

Works perfectly for you?  How do you figure?

? i figure it works for me cause, umm .. it works for me .. unless i'm missunderstanding ur question .. dunno what else to tell you .. it brought my avg down from 72 till where it is now .. & it keeps on workin' better the more i play using that approach .. that should clarify it ..
