For me, one of the most attractive aspects of WGT is that it feels like golf, and it gives me the experience of playing some of the greatest courses on Earth.

Now that I've been here for 6 weeks, I realize that I'm on the verge of losing that realism. My scores are getting lower and lower, and some of my stats are getting into, well, video game territory:

    - I hit 69 of 70 fairways in my last 5 rounds in the Myrtle Beach Open. (PGA's best is ~71%.)
    - My proximity to the hole is usually in the 15-20 foot range (PGA's best is ~32 ft.)

I think my ideal game setup will allow me to have stats (driving distance & accuracy, GIR, proximity to hole, scramble/sand percentage, putting, etc.) and scoring that are good but realistic for PGA pros. I'd like to basically be able to play along with the guys on TV each week and post similar scores and stats to the guys on the first couple pages of the leaderboards.

Is anyone out there in the WGT community intentionally dialing in their equipment combinations to play the game this way? Can you share your thoughts and experiences?

    Thanks,
    Maboonkrang

P.S. I may, at some point in the future, decide to dive in and just go for the lowest scores possible by getting all the best equipment, but I want to find and enjoy this realistic sweet spot before I do that.

Im sorry but it is a video game so with that said your going to have video game stats LOL

Not everyone is an expert in 6 weeks like you.

If you want the most realism then do what you said in your last paragraph and enjoy the game.

As far as being like real scores in real life this game is the only golf sim out there that even comes close. Unless there is a better sim ??

If my stats related to real life stats I would be on the tour  LOL

There are so many different levels of players on here using top of the line equipment and some not . Enough so that it should remain fun if you find players that can challenege you on a day to day basis.

    Enjoy .

This might sound strange but I play practice rounds with the range ball( free ball) to simulate realism.  They don't fly as far off the tee or stop nearly as well on the greens but I enjoy the way I have to adapt to them to get decent scores. Playing run up shots instead of throwing darts is just fun to me. Most of the established math equations don't work so I've created my own which is another way to keep it fresh IMO.

I play ranked and Tourney rounds to shoot the lowest scores possible with the best equipment I can get but just for kicks I enjoy playing in practice mode with the range ball.  Occasionally I play with the starter clubs as well  to keep my interest higher and my intuitive playing sharper. Repeating the same formula can sometimes get boring for me. Perhaps switching it up will keep it fresh and real for you too?

I'll admit I'm not the best player in the WGT world, but this game is not 'realistic'. -19 (52) on Chambers Bay qualifier???? I've played golf, and I watch a lot of the PGA on TV and the lowest round I can remember seeing is a 59. Look at the scorecards your not going to see a 52 from the best of them. Yep it's a game, but not all that realistic.

All this time and people still don't get it...

When WGT (or any other video game) talks about realism, they are almost universally talking about graphics and a few other minor aspects.  There are tons of FPS (that's first person shooter to all you non-gamers) games out there that are trying to boast realism.  Well...when was the last time you took an automatic machine gun and gunned down any person you see?

This is a very "realistic" game insofar as fluidity of swing, graphics, animation, etc.  You're not playing as a polar bear who can aim your ball mid-swing with a controller.

If you're judging realism by scores, you're missing the forest from the trees.

+1 it's a vast topic, but this is the basic gist to which I agree.

Realism with ' fluidity of swing, graphics, animation, etc'

But when we talk about super low scores, that's a different area. IMO WGT, as a business, then as a game, then as a simulation, has to offer a progression that differs from golf in real life.

The virtual clubs selections and the tier advancement, etc. will offer a path of advancement which can be applied to gamers who will play virtual golf in a totally separate way than which they might play IRL.

Long story short...graphical = kinda real, statistical = different.
