I don't think it's a big secret. Go a practice chipping it on the green?     I did  & I don't think its all that. You gotta ding/nail it perfect & hit way harder, depending where it lies. idk,,,it didn't work out that well for me.

I thought it was harder to get it close with the wedge than a putter anyhow.

    just sayin

sometimes I''ll flop a shot from like the fringe & cozy it down to the hole, like that.

    Teewilly:

You ever have to putt through a place on a green that someone has "hacked" up?

Not on WGT courses. They are immaculate for each player

(in contrary, the PGA Tour really plowed, e.g. on CCC#12, leaving divots amass in the landing zone)

Back to WGT: Iron shots on fairway or fringe leave divots which rest during the further play of the hole, while those shots on the greens remain invisible - WGT greens are resistant against punches/pitches and the like.

    So where is your point?

All Legends I play with use wedges on greens but won't divulge yardage used, spin etc..nice enough bunch in all other respects but very tight lipped...Cmon guys some one let u know..Share you're expertise...Andy.

I am no Legend, but when that shot is badly needed, I use a 60-degree "punch" shot, and double the distance. Works out pretty well on flat terrain, but of course you have to adjust for hills and bumps uphills and downhills.
