I suppose this has been hashed over before but a search did'nt produce anything so here goes.  If #7 at BPB is a par 5 for the "PROS" why isn't it a par 5 for us duffers?

Always  thought the same thing , even before the Barclays , the hole should be par 5 .  I paly BPB  like a  no tomorrow  and i think in the three years i,ve played it , i got birdie there like 5   times .  come  wgt   it would hurt you to cut us a husk .

It's like SA 17, a par on these holes feels like a bird, a bird feels like an eagle.

It was a par 4 @ 525 yards for the 2009 US Open. Full Course Par 70.

They probably changed it to Par 5 so there would be more birdies. Dumbed it down as it were.

Last I looked at the BPB tourny here, the leader for 1st round shot a 50....

I'm fine with it as a par 4. Notwithstanding that I've turned many a par into double bogeys there.

As for here on WGT, I think it comes down to the full course Par. Making the 7th a par 5 would make BPB a par 71, as it is this year at the Barclay's.

When the US open was played at BPB, the 7th hole was turned to a par 4. WGT brought out the course using the US Open version. I like it

When the US open was at Bethpage the 7th was turned in to a par 4 so therefore it's the same here.

    Beaten to it...lol

BPB#7 played as a par 4 at the 2009 US Open - I believe that is why we have to play it as a par 4 here on WGT.

IMHO it's really a par 4.5 and as such a flawed hole, as a par 4 it is prohibitively long, but as a par 5 it would be lamentably weak, so all in all I think par 4 is the lesser of two evils.

If you think about, if it was changed to a par 5, only difference would be noticed in your stats.

    Heck, make'em all par 6's...shoot a 70 and be 38 under...but it's still a 70;)

It's one of the harder, if not hardest holes IMHO.

The other difference between us and those guys out there this weekend is the length:

We play it 525 yds from the tips, they play 553 yds.

It sure would play easier as a Par 5 though.

Ahh, good point, they didn't dumb it down then since they added the 28 yards. Good to know.

WGT doesn't have the new back tee, so leaving it as it is is fine with me. And yes it would be too easy as a par 5 from any tee except the new one that we don't have
