I have used both methods from time to time.

It should also be said that putting is my weakness on WGT.

The missed ding to me is just a way to bring in more variables.  If you can calculate the distance properly and the direction why bring another variable into putting.  I can honestly say that when I line up my putts and stroke them properly they generally go on the line that I have selected.  I miss more putts when I line them up and try to compensate for not thinking I have the right line by missing the ding than any other way.

Even on a fairly short putt, inside 15 feet, missing the ding by more than one click can effect the distance.  I just think it brings an unnecessary variable into putting.  For short putts I generally hit them hard enough to not break and these generally don't need any ding help.

When you hit the "ding" it says "Excellent" for a reason. I hope this helps.

    piztaker:

I putt to miss on short putts and to ding on longer ones but that's just me.

I'm with you Piz...Missing the ding on putts inside of 7 feet seem to be a bit more forgiving providing you factor in ample distance...

Then again, I'm no Steve Stricker with the flat stick...(:o)

Over to your right there it says "Changing Tiers". It's there for a reason. I hope this helps.

putting advice... from someone with a 1.80 putting avg..that can drive it within a wedge of every green..i don't think i'd listen to too much.. ..

kinda seams like being a senior in high school and playing ball against elementary kids.. then braggin bout how many times you win... (alt shot) ..

if it helps any... i use a lil of both.. aim and click a tad erly or late according to slope...  but will admit its the tuffest part of the game for me... love it THO ..I GET OFF ON the PAIN ..:)

Miss the ding putting and ding putting are variations of the same thing.  In ding putting, you move the flag to the left or right, depending on the break, then hit the ding.  In miss the ding putting, you don't move the flag, but aim left or right depending on the break.  Either way, you have to estimate how much to move the flag, or how much to hit left or right.  In some cases, though, when there's a severe break, you won't be able to play enough break by hitting left or right, you have to move the flag.
