    Close of Play

    The second to last tournament of the regular season turned into a precession for Tour Commissioner, Funkyjunkie3000. Andy took the win with the join-largest winning margin of the season which was no mean feat given the fact that it was 3 x 9 holes. Added to this, he joins Luiscraveiro as becoming the second player to win multiple tournaments in the WGF Tour 2012. Congratulations Andy - great effort and for once, no jokes at your expense :)

    Talking of making jokes at other players expense, tour tearaway TonyTurbo78 had a full-on breakdown / hissy fit / man-paddy / whaaaaaambulance moment in his 3rd round playing alongside Tour Commissioners, Jimbean346 and Funkyjunkie3000. The TV cameras caught it full tilt when Tony started his round off playing like the proverbial “hack”. At one stage, he threw a ball at a cameraman’s lense shouting “F#?* O#@” at the top of his lungs. We were almost expecting the second “Phil Mick” of the season from a leading tour player following Priestess’s earlier tournament walkout but he managed to regain his composure by sinking a few good mid-range putts.

    It’s fair to say that since John Daly Mk 2 has returned to the tour, it’s been intriguing assessing his every move; we hope to see more “colourful” play during the next two weeks. Unbelievably Kurtsbuford managed to keep an incredibly low profile in R3 following “squirrelgate”. It’s safe to say we know this won’t last long ;)

    We also saw possibly the first ever “Pro-Am” event on WGT alongside the main tournament this week. This invitation only event saw 18 teams start off against each other. Although not everyone managed to finish, we had an extremely close finish which showed that in a well-paired event, consistent rather than spectacular scoring will normally win through. Well played to Eagleeyes1 and Shankette who took the honours as winners in this event.

    Finally I want to flag up an excellent effort by Cagster as well who scored -12 for the three rounds which were played across tricky conditions at all times.

    Credit Winners

    Tournament Winner = Funkyjunkie3000 (-25) = 1350 credits

    Runner up = AllyKennedy (-22) = 900 credits

    Best finish by a non-legend = Cagster (-12) = 250 credits (highest ranked player wins)

    Best Round (R1-R3) = 250 credits per round (lowest ranked player wins)
    R1 = TDHarvey (28)
    R2 = TDHarvey (28)
    R3 = Priestess (29)

    Most eagles = Zant (2) = 250 credits (lowest ranked player wins)

    Most birdies on P3's = Jcgfree (5) = 250 credits (lowest ranked player wins)

    Hole in one/Double Eagle = 600 credits (2 events) (to be carried over and pooled cumulatively for the next event if not won) = N/A - carried over

    Pro-Am winners = Eagleeyes1 (750 credits) and Shankette (250 credits)

    A short tour standings update. Ally and Andy are firmly out in the lead going into the final event and are now unlikely to be caught in the top two positions (Demetrio can do it but will need a big finish in the Barclays). Ally still has points to come from the matchplay so will regain the lead before the close of Week 13.

    Behind them, there's a monumental tussle for positions going into the final week. There are 6 players all within 60 points of each other and with positions being crucial to give an optimum chance in the Tour Finals, it's going to be very interesting to see how the playoff tournament pans out. With Tess having had such a positive start, we'd expect to see her hang onto her 4th position but who knows with so many good players in the equation.

    Best of luck to everyone and remember you have to play and finish six tournaments to qualify for next week.

    James
