    No, you should have pitched.

If you learn to use your pitch shot well, I can assure you that you will hole a lot more around the green, or even just leave yourself an easy putt. The problem with a chip is that you have to include a lot of roll into your equation. So unless the green is 100% flat this can be tough from more than 7 yrds. The pitch allows the ball to fly through air for most of the way so that you only have a little but of green to negotiate before the pin.

As for the flop, well it's great for getting the ball close to the pin and getting it to stop well, but if you want to hole more around the green, practice your pitching.

With all due respect sir this is really a matter of personal opinion, You have played more than 6 times as many games as me so your scrambling stats look very impressive, but I find using a flop on a sloping green is more effective for me. I'd love a game at any time so we can contrast and compare. I'm always willing to be proved wrong.

i agree flop is best  put in close i like chip ive holed a few with it

My point exactly, if you want to put it in close, then be my guest and flop all day.

I guess I'll have to learn how to pitch then, I haven't used that shot since I've discovered how flops work (around May 2012), with 2 exceptions being 30-ish yard approach shots on RSG #14 and Oly #17 from just below the green. And I only chip if I'm less than 8y away and just off the green.

I agree with what you said about not sinking flops, however that is only 100 % true for 64 degree CG, with which there's almost no roll. That's why I stopped using that club after a week and returned to my trusty L42 Ping. i've holed quite a few flops with that 1, cause you get at least a yard or 2 of roll and it gives you a much bigger chance to sink one, while still landing it close, if you miss. But, that makes it worse for pitching, so I guess the choice of shot depends a little on your clubs as well. Although, if you and Courtney say that pitch is better, it couldn't hurt if I spend some time learning the shot, considering how the 2 of you are scoring ;-)

P.S.: On a side note, I'm glad this thread turned into a referendum on shot selection and giving advice, I don't really like reading threads with a title like this 1.

I was reading about watching the menu go dim in a MPC to spot something fishy.

What does it mean if the menu goes dim and the shot is instantly taken, no delay, no dim for 2, 3 4 or 5 seconds or more, just dim and bang.?
