Sod it, i hate to say it, but here goes. Im 11 yards from the hole (1 yard off the green) and 12 inches uphill. Greens are on Fast speed. I decide to use the 11 yard chip shot with a tiny amount of spin. I check, and double check im using the correct shot, and i ding it. Getting 5 yards from that shot tells me someone other than the folks on the community spotlight page are cheating. There, now, i said it.

    You should have flopped. Honest.

    No, you should have pitched.

If you learn to use your pitch shot well, I can assure you that you will hole a lot more around the green, or even just leave yourself an easy putt. The problem with a chip is that you have to include a lot of roll into your equation. So unless the green is 100% flat this can be tough from more than 7 yrds. The pitch allows the ball to fly through air for most of the way so that you only have a little but of green to negotiate before the pin.

As for the flop, well it's great for getting the ball close to the pin and getting it to stop well, but if you want to hole more around the green, practice your pitching.

    Good Luck

That gets my vote.  I know a few players who play a flop for any short shot, occasionally they hole one but I think a pitch has a much better chance of going in.   As PB says, you don't have to work out as much roll as you do for a chip which makes life much easier.  I almost never play a chip come to think of it and only a flop if I have to clear a bunker or steep rise and stop very quickly.  I use pitches up to about 22 yards, after that I'll more likely play a punch.

If you have a wedge and a ball with alot of spin, then full shots are the best choice for around the greens, i havent used chip, pitch, or flop in along time.

No cheating going on there. 12 inches uphill is a big hill to climb,. Why would  you expect a shot that travels 11 yds. on flat ground go the same distance uphill? Virtual gravity can be a ***.

Nothing for nothing, but in truth a Chip is an extended putt if u gona put with a 12 inch up u gona add at least 12 foot rite? then why would you think 11 yards chip ( goes 10.5 on cleavlands flat surface) into an up of +12 foot land and roll should be 11 yards??? in fact it will land short and roll more than a pitch so in reality ud need to add +6-8 foot so hiting 6ish i woulda said 7 actually but even coming up short should not stump you if you know ur clubs.... Got Nothing to do with cheating and everything to do with Knowing ur clubs.
