I thought there was a set of starter clubs you could upgrade to free after beginners?

I found this 3d that faced my actual problem.

I became Tour pro last week and I am at L62. I would like to buy a better driver. Now I have Tour Starter 10.5° Driver (L10+)  230y. I always had troubles in many holes for the lenght of the same and/or for the wind direction. I should need then something good for improving my game. My idea is to buy the G10 8.0° Driver (L58+)  or the R9 TP 8.5° Driver (L62+). I rented for free both this week-end and I had much more difficulties with the 2nd one, even though they have same speed meter. It seem to me that less precision drive to more wrong drives. I had around 80% of hitting fairways with the first and 50% with the second. Is my impression correct or not? I see the meter of R9  "jumping" and I have great troubles in getting the ding, while I've not with the G10. Looking at the sole 5 yards of difference in lenght, I would buy the G10, even less expensive.

    Some suggestions?

    Tks, bye

I did a review of both clubs on my club reviews thread ( http://wgt.com/forums/t/72948.aspx ).  I found that, as you said, the G|10 was easier to keep on the fairway.  However, in the tests, the R9 averaged 294 yards, a staggering 13.5 yards more than the G|10, which averaged just 280.5 (see the review for more full info and conditions).  I struggled with the R9 at first, too, but I'm getting better at it and decided that the steeper learning curve was worth it for the extra yards, even though I didn't know just how big the difference really was until this weekend.  At the time I bought it over the G|10 because all the legends said it was better when used properly.

Also, the meter shouldn't jump with any club. If it does, there is an issue with your computer.  I find that restarting my browser (Google Chrome) usually fixes it.  My meter is then very smooth for a few days, until I have to restart Chrome again.

I've been using the G10 for about 5 weeks or so and rented the lvl 62 R9 over the weekend. The extra 5 yards of distance is nice, but it is MUCH less precise than the G10. For me there's no question, the G10 is better, and is plenty of distance for TP tees. Even if you hit the ding, there is more variability on where the ball goes with the R9, and with the extra distance on top of that ... too many missed fairways. G10 all the way.

Thank u very much for the replies!

TURNABOUT what an impressive review! My best compliments. I used the R9 till few minutes ago and the things went better. Frankly speaking I didn't feel all this extra distance, but I have no data. Anyway, as I'm tour pro since only last week and I just bought new clubs in the last days, I think I'll stay with the G10 for having less troubles until I'll learn more of this wonderful game.

    bye

Thank you.  I'm glad I could be helpful.  I agree that the G|10 is plenty adequate for Medium tees, and if it wasn't looking like I was going to advance to master for a while, I might have seriously considered the G|10. Both are still great clubs, so enjoy the G|10. I actually went with the G|10 as my new wood, and if I were upgrading irons now, I'd go G|10 on those, too. The driver is really the only club from the Tour Preferred set that I prefer over the G|10s.  Good luck with your G|10!

Let me tell ya...I played the Rapture V2 forEVER!  And thought to myself...I'm cool with it..You know...The Ol' "in the ballpark" mentality.  Then just about 4-5 weeks before turning TM I went total G10idge.  I like the precision much more.  Grab some balls for that extra distance if you hafta.  My advise:  Go with the precision over forgiveness...get accurate with your shots and turn yourself into a stud on the course.  Then once you master putting from anywhere on the green, other players will notice and that's when you can see "even most Legends" crack-up from the steady cool consistency of your game....TRUST ME!!
