I had been a "free agent" less than 24 hours, and in that short time, I received 14 invitations to join country clubs. How does one remain humble while saying THANK YOU all for your interest in me. The notes from owners that came with the invites were touching, sincere, and generally lifted the spirits of a guy who for the past year plus, had given his all to a club that he really loved. There shall be no club bashing here, no disrespect, it's just not my style.
To all you owners, I apologize, for I must decline your most gracious invites at this time. I do not ever want to say, "Steve, what would have been if....."
I close this way. I am completely convinced that there are country clubs out there that care about how they treat their membership. That the bonding of members is more important than what you shot. That each member treats his/her club and represents his/her club with character, and dignity, and to maintain the sanctity that is golf. This is what I believe and hope to bring to MY club.
I hope you'll all look forward to MY announcing that "Peacokk Sanctuary Golf Club" will be open to all within the next few days. A full explanation and details about the club, I hope, will make golfers think, smile, and maybe even want to join.
Again, my deepest, warmest thanks to all those who came and supported a guy who really needed a spirit lift.
"fairways & greens" everyone, & I "hope to see you all in the short grass"
