  Just hit a ball into the water on 16-17?? kiawah on the best of par 3's.  Completely my fault

  The ball was then dropped in the sand in front of the tee box 183 yds. from the pin

  I tried to hit back onto the tee box which took 2 shots for some crazy reason I am still unsure of

  Is it normal for someone to drop in the sand 183 yds. from the pin even after hitting into the water??

  Couple of things...

   

  You should be able to drop at the tee,, hitting 3 off the tee box (not teed up-unless I am mistaken)...see Fred Couples do it at he Players...but he may have went over the island green at Sawgrass-17 IIRC, he holed it for par.

   

  Now WGT  follows line of sight, just like the rules of golf say, and drops you on the tee side of "land"...as it should be.

   

  So now the question is...is the sand you are dropped in considered a hazard or not?...i/e is it part of the course, say if you hit into it, you could ground your club or not?

   

  My guess is, that area is not considered a hazard, because the Rules of golf state that you cannot drop into a hazard...so it must be deemed as "course" and you're dropped the two club lengths away.

   

  Only other alternative is if there were designated drop zones, but none are here on WGT.

  In the Kiawah Resort, only a few sandy spots are considered bunkers. The rest is "through the green" - called wasteland on other courses. Considering this, these drops here are legal, albeit sometimes unfortunate to say the least.

  I seem to remember that they made a local rule of "no bunkers at all" at the latest premium tournament.

  Kiawah is a crazy course. The course is beautiful.... but surrounded by nothing but sand. Do not even have cart paths. You must ride in the sand the whole day... some spots can be soft and cart has problems..lol.

  Only course i have ever seen like it. When wind blows at a decent level you really don't want to play....... unless you like to be sandblasted the whole day....lol.

  There are NO sand hazards on the ocean course..........

  8. All sand areas on the golf course are not hazards

  and therefore are played as through the green.

  Must be "interesting" in Chinese measures (an insider here).

  I read that the course designer followed his wife's proposal "let the players see the sea!" resulting in extreme wind exposure.

  Au contraire, my experience from links courses in Britain is that you scarcely, if ever, have a view over the coastal dunes or dams. Disappointing for tourists, favourable for golfers.

  I have had it drop near the front of the tee box before but not on a tee

  As far as it not being considered a hazard was not something I was aware of.  And, it is probably the worst 15-20% lie I have ever played on this game lol

  Any %% lie is evil with 150+ yds of water in front :(

  But back to the layout:

  I agree that there are no bunkers today, but they have been there certainly when WGT set up their course model, as there are bunkers in the virtual course (e.g. green bunkers at #17).

  Me thinks they changed the local rules later, standardizing the rulings.
