WGT didn't change anything. The play now button is loaded by the flash file on your PC. So you must have a problem with the version of flash that is on your PC. re-install flash and you should have your play now button back.
But I feel that playing by clicking on the play now button is not a good way to play. What I do is set the home page of the browser that I play with to the game client page. As soon as I load the browser it takes me to the game client and I don't have to worry about the play now button. . .

I too play by directly accessing the Game Client page instead of clicking on the Play Now button, but I have that link as a Favorite rather than as my browsers default or Home page..
I go to the Game Client page only after I have closed my browser (Chrome). I have my computer and browser options set up so my browser cache and the Flash Player cache are cleared when Chrome is closed.
All of that helps make the meter smoother b y my only having 1 tab open - the Game Client.
