    ISH47:

    5-10% at best..

+1   The only dings I get are the unintended ones. Meter speeds are whacked, makes a needed ding impossible.

    Safdar1:

Of course sometimes I hit off ding deliberately for strong wind and also some putts.

Now, as far as intentional miss ding, those are different % for myself.

On drives, like you, when I want an intentional miss ding, I'll do it, sometimes,  for 2 reasons: a) the heavy wind, so I'll aim a little & miss ding a little, this may also b) work a slight fade/draw effect (drivers only) and it can affect* roll out. Maybe I'll miss ding to fade/draw drives on Pinehurst #3 and maybe Olympic #18.

On putts, and when I'm playing quickly, hitting a very short putt, using Tekoma's***** technique, or when using the ghost spider putter instead of the versa, or when the break is massive & I want to spin the ball on the green and halt it using a heavy miss ding**, I'll use the significant miss ding method.  sometimes

I'll use intentional miss dings on approaches using a starter ball or anytime the meter is super quick, and/or when I'm facing a 'magnetic' hazard, etc, I'll may increase the achievability & chances of a non-detrimental green landing by allowing myself a larger margin of error by, sometimes, attempting an intentional pre-ding or post-ding.***

The pre-ding method that Gary is showing is my basic reflex technique, and it's good to know how fast your reflexes are that day, your clubs' individual speeds, etc. But meters can vary, this may foil my reflexes, and it's good to know what your meter is doing. Many pros have made exact same observations**** on what to expect from your meter as I observed.

The G25 L59 irons have a meter of 4, those matched w/ a ball w/ a meter of 2.5, 3.5 or higher seem to be very manageable. So, total numbers of 6.5 and higher are great IMO.

[ See more about my opinion and success on matching balls and irons spin/meter rating and using extra distance balls properly. Individual results may vary. ]

I think its not crucial to hit ding until your on the putting green,or if a miss ding putter, miss exactly where you plan to. The reason I say this is with putting you have nearly zero margin for error especially if putt is over 10 ft.  or so.

Never really kept track of it, but at a guess 30-40%?  And I try to hit it 95% of the time except when I need to draw or fade a shot

Lol, The only time I hit the ding is when I intentionally want to miss it. I fade or draw the ball a lot, and always, off ding against the break on the green.
