I hit it around 6 times maybe for a 9 hole round. I'll have maybe a handful of wtf's (miles from centre) and most of the rest are a bit either side.

So i guess I ding it maybe 20% or so of the time I try to ding it. Of course sometimes I hit off ding deliberately for strong wind and also some putts.

I am curious if most people get close to the ding often, or actually hit the ding a ton?

Just played a 18 hole practice round at St. Andrews and hit the ding 20% of the time.

Ding ? whats a ding, can you buy one in the pro shop? I don't think I have one lol.

I f I try real hard I can hit it about 30/40 % -  when I want to miss it, especially in putting I'll hit it 80/90%

on a good round  of CTTH  once in 2 rounds otherwise I hit it where WGT wants me to hit it far end, just off or somewhere in between y this game is going downhill for me, the speed of the swing varies from swing to swing

Lately, with the club speeds and balls I've been using, I think I hit the ding on non-putts about 70-80%. But I rarely miss ding, unintentionally, by more than 3 'hairs'.

On putts I think it's more around 85-95%.

I may not always hit ding but I plan for that 'margin of error' and factor that in for a rewarding result. *

I figure in the margin or error; there are a few things I consider.

    * The wind conditions, circumstance, past attempts' record, etc. So, I factor in and I think  about possibilities such as...

"If I hit the ding it will go here, but if I slice a little the wind will blow it in the water, a slight hook would be better than a slight slice."

So, if a slight slice is worse than a slight hook I'll adjust aim/power etc. to compensate. It all depends on things like success rate, past record, current reflexes, ball type.

Or, "If I ding it will go here, but in the past I always tend to slice it and the green has a cant left-to-right and then it rolls off, like at Pinehurst"

So, I always consider the results of a 'ding' but I have plan B and C - if I don't ding what is the worst case scenario? What has happened in the past?

I think many players use this same basic method.

"because sometimes 'dings don't work out like you plan them"

Well the drives I can ding a lot if I want to, but sometimes I try to not even ding it depending on wind.  Probably close to 75% on drives and putts if I focus.  The R11 irons around 25% and Big Bertha 3W 50%.

I ding about 70% of putts and 30% of everything else. Despite what everyone says, hitting the ding is not necessary to be a good player at this game.
