The "light brush" between the green and fairway on Merion #16 is a problem.  Ball goes in but there's no way to hit it out.  Ball travels 0yds and you lose it each time.  Shooting forward or backward doesn't make a difference.

Found this out during a paid Bracket.  I was -2, ended up +4.  Turns out my competitor shot 6 strokes better then I did.  Go figure.  Not sure who would have won the tie break.  Oh, but, hurray, I had the balls I lost replaced for my time and troubles.  That seems like a fair trade-off, right?  Ummmm, no.

In all fairness, the brush probably would have forced a bogey under normal circumstances, so I'll assume I'd have lost the bracket anyway.  Or maybe I wouldn't have been cursing/ranting/haphazardly clicking during holes 17 and 18 and could have made birdie.  Who knows?

Anyhow, the moral of the story is: "Don't try to carry the brush on #16 out of the rough or the WGT ball goblins will bring the pain."

It depends on the type and % but did you try the 'punch with full top spin' w/ your best and shortest (depending on position) wedge?

I've been trying out punch wedges from the fairway to try to dial in the yardages I can expect, but only punch outs in the rough from deadly, but generally flat lies.  I suppose I could have tried it in this #16 gulch, but I'm not sure it would have made a difference.  The fact that my ball was disappearing after going 0 yards tells me it probably wouldn't have worked anyway, but thanks for that.  I'll try it out next practice round if (who am I kidding...WHEN) I'm in some dirty stuff.

Yea, I guess it depends on what kind and how much. Some say that even the punch won't go too far and I have to keep in mind to find the closest FW.

Some say the TS or BS won't matter but here you can see a lot of the same stuff "Punch, ding if possible, get to closest clear ground, etc."

I usually try my shortest wedge, the 60yd Cleve., or the 50yd MAX if I have my Par 3 clubs loaded.

Then the punch isn't helping the next kind I try is the full shot w/ FBS but the ball may be too far gone, I'm still testing out these situations.

    GL !

edit: Like YJ I think I've been there, no getting out and it made me a little mad to say the least

I know of the spot the OP speaks of and you can punch yourself blue in the face, you ain't getting out. I took all 9 shots from there covering a complete circle and the ball never moved. Might as well mark it OB.  :-(

That's nuts.  Did you contact WGT about the glitch?  They will probably pay to have your lower jaw reattached to your face.
