Unless I'm missing something, the gameplay of chip and sand shots makes absolutely no sense. Have yet to figure out if the lie-percentages even make a difference with the short game, and am assuming from now on that a chip shot's ball flight is about 5% of the shots total distance. Absolutely terrible.

the %'s do make a difference.  Your biggest problem is the starter clubs you are using.  They are very unpredictable give the best of lies, but when you get in rough or in sand, they are really, really bad.  As soon as you have some credits and are at a high enough level to get better clubs, i highly recommend that you do.

Playing CTTH won't help you learn the wedge shots. You need to practice and make notes in stroke-play.

I personally play the flop shot out of the sand with full BS.  I find this for me gives me the best results.  I would recommend playing a practice stroke play round and use the mulligan feature to try different shots.  You will find one that works the best for you.

The truth is there are so many options and variables in playing out of the sand that only practice and experience can answer your question with any assurance.  I can however advise the following:

If using a flop out of the sand, aim well left and use full backspin, if using a pitch or a punch, both good options also, add less backspin.  You should still add some of course, or the ball will tend to want to roll on you.

Also very important to remember is that, hard sand plays much like a fairway in distance and control, while soft sand and especially a plugged lie will make for a much more difficult shot.

Practice, practice and then more practice is the best bet for learning and mastering any kind of shot!!!

    1) Would a "flop" from a bunker work with Starters? How much extra power would you propose?

    2) How do you define a plugged lie in WGTland?

People make chips and flops all day, everyday, takes more than 1 month to learn how...when you bother to try you will find it pretty accurate...that's why people hole chips and bunker shots everyday!

Best way around it is to hit the green...

What are you referring to Dan?

If it's my post, why didn't you answer my questions? and please explain if it's about your current wedges (lvl78+ Cleves) or about the Starters?

With the starter ball and starter lob wedge from sand I used the following formula with success : Lob Wedge @ 50% power = 15 yards +or- a yard or so. From 30-40 sand add just a little more. Chip only from fringe and flop everything else aiming always a couple of feet to the left of the pin. This is not the same formula for CTTH.
