I've seen those surveys.  They're pretty high-tech.  The purpose is to follow your eyes to see where you look, how quickly, and for how long.

Lots of surveys require you to do things like give an address, download something on your hard drive, go to an external link that could be anything, or access a webcam.  You just have to choose what you're safe doing.

    WGTadmin:

@ReisR: Which provider was this from?

I think the information I have given you is more than sufficient for you to be able to identify who provided the survey.

If you take a look at the 2 screen captures I have posted earlier, you can see that at the top I have added the URLs.

Furthermore, The survey was access in the usual way:

    - Get Credits

    - Earn Free Credits

    - Take Surveys

and click on one of your listed surveys.
In order to avoid further problems,  maybe you should start naming the provider for each survey on that list.

This is how the industry works for all game companies that utilizes third-party companies that provide surveys and offers.

Maybe so, does not mean this is right - so it is passing the buck. And here was me thinking WGT calls itself an innovative company - perhaps you should think outside of the box and not be like sheep?

So what you are saying, if it was for something illegal or even objectionable (say porn), you have your asses covered (via the T&C)and do not have a duty of care to your users?

So at what stage do you take steps to remove such third parties? When it is too late but what you are saying is legally it is of no concern to WGT, but sorry once again dear customers - you are the ones getting screwed.

Personally I am not what I would consider myself a gamer - I am a golfer who currently plays WGT because it is the only decent golf simulation around.

I once did a survey, and subsequently there has never been another offered, but put quite bluntly, the 30 minutes it took for 75 credits equates to slave labor - and personally, I would have to have rocks in my head to waste my time again. So I choose to pay to play - my choice and saves me from the numerous leeches WGT associate with by washing your hands by stating the lame T&C. If that is not passing the buck, what is?

    QFT.

WGT has very little control over the surveys and offers section however if there is something that could cause security issues for the players we'll see what we can do.

That is a lame excuse - in fact full of hot air.

The website belongs to WGT, therefore the advertisers content can and should be monitored to prevent your customers (advertisers) putting objectionable content or content that would jeopardise your users security - remember this is on YOUR website.

This is hardly the first complaint of similar practices but nothing changes - all because of the drive for that extra dollar -  you would suck blood out of road kill if it earned an extra dime.

It seems WGT washes its hands of accountability every time - whether it is regarding third party arrangements, your own bumbling incompetent programmers or total lack public relations skills.

I feel sympathy for the mods, because you cop the brunt of complaints, but to me after the shameful antics of late, not one word from your boss, which in itself shows either total contempt for the users, or a serious lack of any managerial skills.

Be accountable for your mistakes WGT and you will become a lot better as a company (and after all the concept and product is overall brilliant) but fail to do so, be it at your peril.

Please check the Terms for each of these third party companies as well as our Terms & Conditions in relation to third-party content. By taking part in the surveys players are agreeing to their Terms as well as ours which states that WGT is not responsible for the content. This is how the industry works for all game companies that utilizes third-party companies that provide surveys and offers. We are not trying to pass the buck or make an excuse. This is simply the reality of the situation. Please also keep in mind that players are not required to partake in the surveys nor are they required to provide any information. Players choose to take these steps in order to gain something themselves.

As a company you can make any disclaimers that you want yet it does not alleviate you as a company from liability . As there maybe state , federal , and even consumer laws which will hold you fully responsible for your web site and what happens on it . For the most part , WGT is simply banking on the fact that most of us as users , wont invest the money in legal fees to haul WGT into court to resolve the issues.

You know there was a time that the U.S. fast food industry thought they werent responsible for their product . Until Mc Donalds was sued for making kids obese . The point is very simple , you are responsible for the content of your web site .

Hell even the Mayor of Detroit thought he had a good thing going! Hope he is enjoying his 28 years in prison.
