    borntobesting:

Would you rather ne DQ'd becuse in real golf that,s  what would happen if you ran out of balls.

If you're playing in a tournament that the tournament committee had elected to invoke the local condition of the competition provided for in Appendix I of the RoG known as the One Ball Condition.

    PENALTY FOR BREACH OF CONDITION:

Stroke play - Two strokes for each hole at which any breach occurred; maximum penalty per round - Four strokes (two strokes at each of the first two holes at which any breach occurred).

Match play - At the conclusion of the hole at which the breach is discovered, the state of the match is adjusted by deducting one hole for each hole at which a breach occurred; maximum deduction per round - Two holes.

    (ii) Procedure When Breach Discovered

When a player discovers that he has played a ball in breach of this condition, he must abandon that ball before playing from the next teeing ground and complete the round with a proper ball; otherwise, the player is disqualified. If discovery is made during play of a hole and the player elects to substitute a proper ball before completing that hole, the player must place a proper ball on the spot where the ball played in breach of the condition lay.

You can cite the one ball rule but that is NOT what is happening here. Mr. WGT made it clear years ago that the goal was to not give players choices.

In real life the one ball rule does not apply to practice. The one ball rule does not apply to low level competitions and social games. WGT should not be the self appointed tournament committee for the country clubs.

Bottom line? You don't get to choose another ball in inventory because WGT sees the dollar signs of forced ball sales and quite a large number of partially used sleeves people purchased and will never completely use. It's all about the money.
