    ApexPC:
Many real life tournament committees (WGT is the tournament committee for WGT) invoke a Local Condition of the Competition provided for in the Rules of Golf Appendix I known as the One Ball Condition. The One Ball Condition requires players use just 1 make/model of ball during a stipulated round.

Have you ever played real golf under the One Ball Condition?

    I haven't, never!

    Yes.

I have played in real golf tournaments that the tournament committee had chosen to invoked the One Ball Condition.

    mathia14:

Then WGT should try to bring "winter rules" online.

Playing WGT we never have to deal with adverse course conditions caused by weather, making the suggestion seems ludicrous.

Notwithstanding that there are no "Winter Rules" in the Rules of Golf.

But Appendix I does provide for a local rule that permits "Preferred Lies/"Winter Rules" if bad weather has caused mud, extreme wetness, or the course other wise need to be protected from being damaged. Note the USGA uses the " "  - "Preferred Lies" and "Winter Rules".

That local rule (Part a, 4., b.) refers to the lie of the ball, not the ball itself.

I, too, have played in multiple tournaments that have used the Rule. Sorry to rain on your parade, Apex, but as I've said before: The One Ball Condition is not what WGT is doing here.

    from the USGA itself:

    https://www.usga.org/RulesFAQ/rules_answer.asp?FAQidx=177&Rule=15

"When changing balls, the player is permitted to substitute a ball of another brand or type unless the Committee has adopted the One Ball Condition of Competition (see Appendix I; Part C; Section 1c). This optional condition (usually referred to as ‘The One Ball Rule’) is generally adopted only in events that are limited to professional golfers or highly-skilled amateur golfers. Generally, this condition of competition is not adopted in club-level competitions."

WGT does what it does here only because it was the intent not to allow choices to the players, something that was addressed by Mr. WGT years ago. It has nothing at all to do with the One Ball Condition of Competition.

There is no parade to rain on.

I didn't say WGT invokes the One Ball Condition.

In WGT's defence, I understand that it makes the programming much easier to have only one option  - default ball. Any changes would be fraught with game errors, so I would rather them not tinker with this and introduce even more bugs.

That said in practice rounds it would be a nice option, but again the rewards versus the potential issues is not worth it in my opinion.

As long as we know the rules and we get plenty of warnings that it is our last ball, then there is no point whining about it when you are left with the rock to finish.

Personally I would like to see a DQ come up....but that will not happen!
