I just created the 'Prince of Whales' CC, organised a first tournament, invited all my friends and now I get a message that tells me I am ineligible to play in it. How can this be??

Apparently you do not belong to a CC according to your profile.

It depends on a tournament and your country/state laws regarding it. As a club owner/member, you can create it but not necessarily participate in it.
