I didn't know that winning tournaments could affect your average.  It can see you promoted to a higher tier and I thought that was the anti-sandbagging measure.

Fwiw. Once you start a new tier and record 10-20 or so rounds (not sure of the exact #), you get a new average. Guess the word is "reset". Then.....the average can only go down. Not up. At least that's the way mine's always worked.

My understanding is that when you go to a new tier your average is reset but after your first round.  It will then move up or down depending on your scores until you reach saturation (at your level I think that's 50 ranked rounds).  At that point your average can no longer go up.

What happens then is you now have 50 rounds that make up your average, if you play a ranked round your score replaces the worst of the 50 if it is better than it, if it is worse it is ignored. (Your lose your worst score but still 50 rounds for your average).  So clearly you can score worse than your average, but better than your worst score, and see it drop.

    firemangeorge:
As far as a 32(64) changing my average. Not seeing that either. That's higher than my 61 average score stat. The only time I see my average go down is when I shoot a score that is lower than that average.

This may seem true but it has to be possible for a score over your average to lower it, as there must be scores over your average in the 50.  I suppose if you had 50 scores the same, which could happen with someone who was saturated for a very long time, but then the average would be a whole number.

The reason I said I'd expect a 32 to change it (I don't think you've scored one since, so we'll see) is the massive change you reported when you scored 30.

Edit:-Apologies to alosso for a bit of repetition.  I'm in moderation (not sure why, quoting someone fully and accurately back to them I think) so although I wrote the above before his post, his appeared first and my was later slotted in above it.  The joys of the moderation system, daftest thing is that this edit doesn't get moderated.......so if I really wanted to say something naughty.......stupid system.

On tournament results reducing averages I really don't know so perhaps you're right, I do know match play wins do.  If it does happen then surely it can't apply to everyone or the likes of Mags and Tasor will have averages in single figures eventually.

My opening line should have been:   I didn't know that winning tournaments could affect your average.  It can see you promoted to a higher tier without the average and/or number of rounds usually needed; I thought that was the anti-sandbagging measure.

This is before saturation, when the average reacts linear - as tought in school.

I'm afraid that you're mixing it up a bit.

    1) On tier-up, the average is reset. The first score will be the first new average. From there, it's school maths of a floating average.

    2) After a certain no. of rounds (50 for TMs), saturation is achieved. From then on, the (50) best scores will form the average. It will change only when a lower score replaces a higher one in the mix, therefore the average will never rise again until the next tier.

Your average is certainly saturated, and 50 scores formed your average of 61.78. I'm sure that you will agree that there are scores below 61.78 and also scores above the number in this pool. Assuming that any 65 or 66 are included, a 32(64) would reduce the average, as I said.

    3) BTW: 61.00 will make you a Legend, and the next saturation no. is 500.

As YJ stated, a few "anti-sandbagging" rules have been added to this calculation (?by end of 2012?). These include average reducing influence from winning credits (in tournaments and matches) and also from winning matches against higher tiers, if players are below Legend.

WGT doesn't disclose any details to any of the above. While the calcs and numbers for 1), 2) and 3) have been worked out and published by the players, the latter never really became transparent. But, it's a fact. As a TM, I gained 1.4 shots in the average from two match wins against Legends.
