    G0LD:
but you are missing entirely the point I made, regarding a tournament I thought I had enough time to finish, but was mistaken by a fraction and timed out on the last hole, when the system could have been programmed to allow the impending completion of the game.

I can understand the frustration and, on the one hand, I totally agree. On the other hand , however, how do you decide what's fair? You say that you were on the last hole.. almost finished.. when the time expired. But if you're allowed to finish that particular round because you were almost done, then someone else would ( and SHOULD) expect to be able to finish their uncompleted round ...even if they waited until the last minute to start it.

Time limits are time limits, no exceptions.

That, I concede, is a valid point. But what about the logic of the booster drinks, which will rightfully last until the round is completed?

In short, make the deadline for starting a tournament before a certain time, so that when this time has come, this tournament is simply no longer listed and available. As it stands, the deadline is for finishing the tournament before a certain time; this tournament is still listed and available, no matter how little time is left. This latter system is defensible in some ways, but is clearly faulty in that it allows absurd time outs toward the end of a round.

Last word : you can rightfully say that, in general terms, but you are missing entirely the point I made, regarding a tournament I thought I had enough time to finish, but was mistaken by a fraction and timed out on the last hole, when the system could have been programmed to allow the impending completion of the game. Anyway, enough said. If my point is not compelling by now, it never will.

Just to clarify: it may not have ended on last hole, that's just when there is a timer check. It may have ended on the first hole or anywhere in between

I know it's frustrating and I understand the underlying point but I think that system is pretty good.

Note that my idea does include a pitfall, easily averted. In order to avoid someone starting a tournament at the last minute, saving it midway and, with excessive temporizing, holding back the final tabulation of scores, the rule would be that a tournament must be completed within 24 hours.
