The end of game chat wasn't a deliberate change by WGT.
It was (and I know this is hard to believe) a glitch introduced during an update downtime. I asked about it in here and Icon said he didn't see a resolution to the probem happening.

There's one huge change for the worse, in fact it stripped the game of most of it's 'sporting' integrity and that is, allowing baby tees in CC tournaments count as ranked rounds.
Overnight tiers and averages meant nothing.
Anyone playing alt shot with strangers will have seen many, many of these charlatans. Legends, TLs and Champs that couldn't hit a cow on the backside with a banjo.
There are, obviously, more bad changes but as an honest legend creeping ever so slowly towards TL, it's the one that really grinds my gears.
Ditto that. On the other hand, it gives me perverse pleasure when one of those "champions" forfeits.
The good news is that those people get found out very quickly in the heat of battle.
