This is all well and good if you are in the same timezone. However in the UK and Europe the vast majority of players are asleep at the time the announcement is made and completely unaware that there is a downtime until we log on in the morning to find that the WGT down page appears...
What you are saying is that we get up in the middle of the night to check the forum just on the off chance there is a downtime planned (Icon's update was at 02:45 GMT). Not very realistic...
For the last two days, they have probably been forced downtimes fixing the mess they created in the first update......so kind of understandable.
But I agree, perhaps an email to all members advising of a planned update, in addition to the current processes - including the countdown on the game client. This would be known 24 hours in advance.....why not give members as much notice as possible?
For players in Australia and NZ, this is prime time for playing, after work....so I invariably flag playing that day. But we are a minority.....
WGT is a US company, and thus we have to fit in with them....the W in WGT is a token World........just like the UK players all playing under a Union Jack.....no definition for the countries. Welcome to USGT
