I upgraded my putter to an Odyssey Sabertooth yesterday. All of my putts are breaking less than they did previously.  Is this because of the putter or is it my imagination?

Are you hitting the ding more?

Am not at the level yet to qualify for that putter, but those I've played against who had it all said they hated it at first and grew to love it.

Don't know how it would make the ball break less but can see how it would help it hold the line better on longer putts.

Sir! My question to you would be, what are the stats of your previous putter? By comparing them, you sould be able to make a determination if it is something dealing with the forgiveness/accuracy!

I've myself loked into buying one of these myself, but have been holding off to see what others like you are experiencing with wgt's latest new super putter!  lol

Clear your cache file if you haven't already. Also, depending on what you switched from, you may be seeing the result of better balance where the putt holds the line better.

I had been using the Lev 94 Nike (was made a Lev 89 when the 5 level bargain sale was instituted) and just 2 days ago went to the Lev 98 Sabertooth.

    • It does putt differently when off-dinging.  It seems you have to go further off-ding even for relatively short putts (2-4 footers)
    • On putts longer than 7 feet it definitely breaks less than the Nike.

I think the reason is what others have stated about the "balance" of the putter.  The ball holds the line better so you must make an adjustment in your aim to compensate.

It's like any new club...you have to adjust.

The breaks dont change because of the putter . You bought the putter yesterday but you still have to break it in . Play stroke play practice rounds and give yourself 2 -3 weeks to get used to it . Its a great putter once you learn how to putt with it but it will take a minute .

Its the balance and feel I went through it too with the Versa putters from L70 + L96 and L98+ also . Each one has a different feel to them and the change in the balance is very noticable also .

    Interesting information folks, thanks.

I am looking to upgrade my putter and have been looking at similar threads.

From what I've seen above I think you have answered my unasked question as to why I am missing so many straight putts ( heaps actually ) over the last few months. Especially if I miss the ding by the barest possible margin.

At around $65.00 Aussie it is a big decision for me. Hence my reluctance to purchase a new one until I glean quality info from those who have purchased a better quality weapon. ( a 1 or 2 day rental is not enough to get used to it from my perspective ) So thanks again for the above posts.

    Cheers from Alan

This is so true. I used to putt off ding until the original Ghost came out and I switched to a ding putter. The reason was because you had to miss by way more than you used to with earlier putters. It didn't feel right so I went to the ding method. Doesn't mean you can't putt that way, I just thought missing by as much as you had to would affect the accuracy and distance.

OK, that makes sense.  I usually "Off-ding" my shorter putts so now I will have to off-ding a bit more to compensate for the better putter.  Thanks
