I've lost track of the number of times someone I've played against messaged me threats and berated me with foul language. No doubt trying to distract. I automatically block them, but I don't know if that means I'll never be matched against them again or not.

One thing I've noticed is most times the their messages dissapear after a few minutes. I don't see a way to delete something once you send it, so is it being deleted by WGT? Are you able to delete comments?

It's gotten to the point now where I really don't want to open any messages sent when I start a match, which is a shame because most players are normal and friendly.

They can only send you a personal message if they are on your friends list , They can post something on your profile wall unless you block them , Yes they can delete said message anytime , The best thing to do is play with friends or club mates ,  If you play with strangers there is always a chance of running into a jerk .

If you get abusive comments in a game or on your wall , Report it to costumer service  , Take a screen shot or copy the message and send it to CS ..

    +1!

Unluckily, blocking by the list doesn't affect the matching for games, so they might appear there again. Memory serves to discard them...

And, the alternative to the worries about reporting is, Block & Forget.  Just continue your experience and have fun!

Thanks for the replies. I'm on various other forums and understand that with the internet there is anonymity, and that let certain types unleash their inner jack ass. Just an unfortunate thing we have to deal with.

I had grabbed a few screen shots showing the messages, thinking I could post or report them, however I didn't see anything like that. I wonder If I started a thread where you could post these screen shots (I'm new, so I don't know if you can even post pics) and publicly shine a light on them, would it do anything?

Either way, I'm playing on and having fun. It is just a game, after all.

It is unfortunate, but, occasionally you do run in to these types. When I first started here I most left because of it. As you advance you will see it less and less, at least that has been my experience. Good luck, enjoy your stay, FR sent.

I've not see this yet, but I've only been around a short while.  I do come across players who berate themselves when disappointed about their own poor play, but I've never had any of them berate MY poor play.  :-)

I get that golf is a frustrating game, so it doesn't bother me when my opponent expresses frustration at their own poor play - if we're being honest, almost all of us have been there before.

What I have found interesting is the couple of old-timers (not necessarily in terms of real age, but in terms of having been playing WGT for a while) who have very bluntly accused me of cheating; evidently it's a "thing" for experienced players to open new accounts in order to play at lower levels, and they assume I am doing this.  I don't take offense - actually, I take those accusations as a compliment - but I do laugh at it, since, as noted above, I'm not even very good at this game.  Reminds of something Abraham Lincoln said when Stephen Douglas accused him of being dishonest: "If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?".
