Lonnie, there may be times when "poaching" would not be considered unethical an other situations where the method is the problem.
Let's take a case to show where a hands off attitude might not apply. I was once a member of a club where the owner often disappeared for long stretches. The club operated but could not grow because of powers given only to ownership. Checking just now I find that he is still the owner and has not played a round since August of 2015. There are 90 members on the roles of whom 34 have played in 2017. I would suggest that those 34 members are free agents and might be invited to join another club without causing too much of a fuss. Whether they want membership in another club is the real issue and they can turn down any invitations they might receive.
The second part of my posting goes to the point of soliciting new members by making "monetary" offers to join. Giving someone a sleeve or two of expensive balls after they have been a member for a month and then nice putter after 6 months might cause all of us to join you on the non-poaching side of the issue.
We are all free to join or leave clubs at any time. No reasons need be given. Owners likewise can add or delete members at any time with or without reason. That I invite you to join my club might just be a way of showing you the respect that you deserve. Lonnie, almost any of us visiting these forums would be honored if you were to join their club. And the best way to find out if you would like to, would be to give you an invitation. Accept the fact that you are a wanted man and politely send your regrets. And remember, jacklighting is against the law but hunting isn't.
