  my inventory used to show how much life was left on a given ball when it was down to only one ball, it does not show this any more!??

  I know that this will work if you really want to know and don't mind going by Omaha to check, but add ball to your inventory, choose any course, choose practice -1 hole look at meter, click off page, then do again for each ball you have only 1.
