You know, I have noticed a quiet a few times that sometimes when you have to reach a certain distance that you never exactly get that distance, sometimes it is not even close (not counting head wind)

Lets say the hole is 130 yards away and you get a club rated at exactly 130 yards, this is not assuming strong tail or head wind. I noticed a lot of times it won't make it unless you go a club up, I am just curious as to why this is the case.

I'm wondering if missing the ding has an affect on distance?

Remember, distance is effected by elevation as well as wind.  The amount of backspin or topspin will also effect distance.

Then precision and forgiveness also come into play.  I included a link below with a great explanation by SgtBilko as to how they can effect shot distance as well as left to right aim.

I hope this helps your understanding of why some shots can end up short or long even when you think you've hit a "perfect shot".

    ChrisTucker5:
    . . . a club rated at exactly 130 yards . . .
The distance rating is not exact.

VEM (precision and forgiveness), what ball you use, ding or missed ding, elevation difference, spin setting, the shot type, the shape and condition of the terrain where the ball lands - all affect the distance one way or another.
