I've noticed that when I 'ding' a shot and nail the distance, the direction is left or right up to 5 yards.  No lateral wind either, straight dead-on shots.

You do realize that your irons have only 2.5 dots of precision, yes?

Just guessing that if I ponied up some more cash, by 'dinged' shots would suddenly become straighter.

The 'G' in WGT stands for Gimme.

    Hmmm,

Precision and Forgiveness come with a price tag attached. Here and in real golf. I think even Bernie Sanders would agree with that.

Think of a bulls eye target. There are a number of rings on that target. A dinged shot may not hit that inner circle every time because of many reasons including the precision and forgiveness of your clubs as well as the pairing of your ball to these clubs.  With wedges the rings of the target are closer together and with the 3 wood, they are much larger.  You shouold be happy to ding lots of shots and be somewhere on the target, not just  in the smallest ring.
