Malware included.  Turns out the bad guys added a little malware to CCleaner downloads.

This is why I won't go online without one, and tell everyone to use a software firewall like ZoneAlarmPro with their router...and "free" winpatrol software....

ZA won't let anything on your computer "phone home" with you okaying it, and winpatrol won't allow any changes to your root system without your approval....they stop them in their tracks and let you close your connection until you fix(remove) the problem...

I'm not as "up to date" on all this stuff as I once was, so I am sure their are other programs available now that are as good, possibly better, but a must have IMHO...

The 2 biggest personal data thieves on the net are Google and Facebook, I worry about them more than any malware out there....microsoft runs a distant 3rd to them at best...LOL

I just posted that for those of you that use some external whatevers to keep your machines where you want them. I've never personally used anything but Avast AV (free version) myself. Never saw a need to have anything else.  :-)

Avast is good, but AV's alone aren't quite good enough... malware is usually coded to get around AV's, and they can change your root settings in the system to what they want...thus the need for something like winpatrol, nothing will be changed until you OK it.....

ALL software phones home so to speak on a regular basis....when infected  with viruses or malware(hijackers), they access the net immediately to spread or relay the info obtained from your PC, if you have something like ZA, it uses a popup and notifies you "what" is trying to reach out to the net, but doesn't allow it to do so until you OK it...

My take is anyone who doesn't use them, won't UNTIL they get infected with malware, after they are, they will for sure! After a day or two of getting rid of the infection(and there are some that require a lot more than just running malwarebytes), changing passwords, etc etc, you will see the need...LOL

I have been down that road and it's not fun. I'm lucky to have a rudimentary understanding of what's going on and understand why I was in that situation. Live and learn sort of thing, I suppose.

Vigilance trumps everything. They ain't getting me.  LOL

p.s., Dunno bout this Equifax thing.             Yet.

I updated my CC Cleaner to 5.44, and it put Avast Anti Virus in also. There is nothing that mentions Avast.

I have a Paid subscription of Norton. I had to download Avast Clear to remove it.

I'm just letting others know, as a lot of us use CC Cleaner.
