When I’m playing someone other than a USA citizen I rarely know where they are from. I don’t have an extensive knowledge of flags as I’m sure most of your players will admit (except Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory). My recommendation is that you allow a player to click on their flag to show the country of origin. Simple but powerful (and educational).
