  Forget about wind and forget about elevation factors.  I talking about iron shots with neither.

  Simple question.  Is this 'game' programmed so that iron shots over bunkers are always 15-25 yards short?  I just want to know, yes or no.

  No. However, most bunkers have walls and are located in places where the actual carry of your irons is severely affected. Forget the distance to the hole when you find yourself facing one, pay attention to what it takes to get OVER the trap and then look at what will happen after it does.

  YJ has already answered your question. I'm just going to add a bit (just in case you're interested; if not, feel free to ignore).
  
  For green-sider bunkers, ScottHope (IIRC) shared a graphic a while back that I saved. I think it has pretty good information. See below. Again, if you find it useful, great! If not, ignore it. :-) 
  
  For fairway bunkers (that are still a considerable distance from the green): just get it back in play and moved down the fairway. That's the only goal a player should have.

  If green side bunkers are giving you problems, take them out of play! There is usually an approach shot that keeps you on the fairway with a short chip or pitch to the pin.

  Most par 5s ypu can reach in 2, pitch on in 3 and have a good chance for a birdie.

  If a par 4s settle for par, when you feel you can't make it over the bunker and stop the ball near the pin.

  Some time it's better to play safe par than chance eagle/boggy/ double boggy.
