    Hello all you WGT fans,

I'm trying to come up with new formats for competitions to run in our club and thought it wouldn't hurt to ask here for ideas.  We've run many different formats over the years but something new would be great.

I'll start off by listing some of the things we've tried:

Eclectic.  Play several rounds over the same course and only count the best score made on each hole.  The winner here is usually the one who makes most eagles or manages to birdie a particularly difficult par 4 hole.

Twins.  Played with a partner and uses a CC tournament.  One player plays first, posts their card and the other player has to try to exactly match it.  Score on each hole, fairway hit, green in regulation and number of putts taken.  The actual score for the round is counted for both players, plus 1 stroke added for every difference on the cards.

Daytona.  Also played with a partner.  Both play and post their cards, the score for each hole is a 2 digit number using their 2 scores, lowest number first.  So if they score 3 and 4 it's 34, if they both take 5 it's 55.

We also have a Premier League tie in tournament.  20 players are each allocated a team from the English premier League.  The winner is decided by the scores their respective teams have in the PL and their own scores in a weekly CC tourney.  If 1 player scores 32 and their opponent 33 then they are 1:0 ahead.  If their team then loses 0:2 though they have lost 1:2 overall.  This one needs commitment as it's long running.

Irons only rounds.  Speaks for itself really.  Various other equipment restricted rounds too.

Tourneys requiring you to have gone in a bunker, missed all fairways or greens, various options there, depending on how mean you're feeling.

There have been numerous others but this post is starting to get a bit big.

Any ideas from the community would be very welcome.

    Many thanks.

The Peoples Club has run two other I do not see here.  There are:

    Bingo, Bango Bongo.

Two players play in a practice round set up specified by the Tournament Director.  Three points are given per hole.

The point for Bingo goes to the first player on the green.

The point for Bango goes to the closest ball to the hole once both players are on the green (regardless of number of shots taken).

Bongo goes to the first person in the hole (once again regardless of the number of shots / putts taken).

Typically we run 2 Divisions - straight up division and strategy division.  In straight up players just play their normal game and let the points fall where they will. In strategy anything goes (including 7 putts for the bongo point).

    Scrambled Bangers

Again set up as a practice round under the conditions specified by the Tournament Director. This one is your score plus a penalty stroke for any check marks you have on your score card. In other words if you hit the fairway off the drive on a hole,  1 "penalty stroke" is added to your score, if you hit the Green in Regulation another is added.

A "perfect" score on a Par 4 hole would be a drive into the rough, a recovery shot short of the green, and a holed approach shot for a bird.

One of Sue's inventions for the Dalers is her Tri-Am.

Teams of 3 put together so that it's pretty easy for them to get in a multi-play round. The teams play either 9 or 18 and post the card. The team score is made up of the low score for each hole.

Each week you are up against one of the other teams, going round robin to finally decide the winner.

The Money Bag (no money just the title and a picture of a money bag)

This is a match play game. A player is awarded the money bag to start. Does not matter how just owns it. Any club member can challenge for the bag by setting up a game for the bag. Any match play game is eligible to play... par 3's 5's pratrice ( we took out uneven lies). Once a player has the bag he must accept the challenge from anyone. Winner post in club forum he has the bag so others can challenge for it. ( helps increase club forum use).

We have 13 pages so far and that is a lot of matches

Thanks for the ideas, some very good ones among them.  I especially like formats that encourage members to play together.

That is a very good idea.
