Thanks again for the very good tips everybody... Looks like the bunker or laying-up short is the go here on this hole.

If you want a safe chance at saving par, yes. BUT, unless you have a ridiculous tail wind, there are ways to get that birdie look. As with almost all the holes at any course, playing up to the pin is the best move.

Knowing that green slopes up before the pin and with room in front of it, landing a shot short on the green is not that difficult. Knowing the roll after landing is, though, and that's where you can outsmart this hole. It's a difficult shot but hugely rewarding.  :-)

I've kept track. I've only ever birdied that pin 3 times; one miracle putt of 64 feet and twice holing from the bunker. I do go for it on occasion.

    Unbelievable

End of a nine hole tourney. I got that little pause. "Are you kidding me?" ran through my mind.

    :^)

Jim, that link showed me a replay of an eagle at RSG hole 4.

    Lovely shot right enough...

Wow......only three times and twice from the bunker!

But in fairness, my record is not much better!

I have sunk a few birdie putts from below or to the side of the hole....but very rarely do I make par from above the hole.

I know a couple of years ago (maybe at Christmas) there was a putting comp which FMags won. Could find that putt but there are  some here from a thread I had not seem.

BTW Jim.... it is St G's #4....nice shot though

    Link fixed.

    Not sure how that happened.

    ---------------

The WORST outcome for the hole is to be just a bit short and hit the fringe hump. I've had it happen to me and have seen other replays. The ball goes all the way to the back of the green. For me, I got lucky and it went off the green, giving me a shot instead of an impossible putt. Salvaged par.
