I believe any driver from 280 yards onwards does the job and has no impact on your scoring in terms of length. I played as well with my M2 as I do now with the Rogue. Sometimes the additional few yards hurt you when you are suddenly in between clubs for your approach. It is definitely the irons and wedges that impact your score as well as the ball. drivers are way too forgiving and accurate in this game in my opinion. I wish they would reduce the accuracy and forgiveness the longer the drivers go,- can't remember any of my real life golf games where the drive pretty much always ends up where I aim,.... and I think the tour pros would second me on that take. ...

my opinion is longer is generally better even a couple yards.

Learning how much spin to use on the various winds will change the outcome on how it compares to other drivers as far as distance.

i disagree with the one istatement about saving a stroke a round.

in reality it's probably only 1 stroke every couple rounds. Most of the time the difference is so minor that  you'd be hardpressed to say did those few yards matter? I mean on a 200 yard approach did being a tad bit closer enable you to put the ball a few inches closer to the hole and thus make the putt instead of that lipout?? it's almost impossible to know.

however there is one precise instance where it matters.

every so often on a par 5 maybe you just cant quite reach the green with your 3W. and 2 more yards means you clear the uphill slope (or water)  and land on the green for that eagle try. that's the only specific instance that you can directly point to as an advantage.

and that probably only happens once every 4-5 rounds.
