i remember the island well as i was there for over 14 weeks. wasn't it the PX i could be wrong. next door to it was the pool hall were i spent the first 3 nights on the island sleeping on the floor with another 30 people. over the road was the Volcano club with the outdoor cinema screen and baseball diamond. we were found a bungalow in Georgetown over looking the harbour that was in a stones throw of the two bars, the exile bar that we were banned from after a group of british marines wrecked it, and the saints bar where we drank most of the time.
one story i remember is walking with a friend one night from georgetown to the american base a walk of a few miles, when a army landrover pulled up with 3 SAS soldiers aboard and asked if we wanted a lift they were only going to the turn off for two boats but would give us a lift to the turn off. we jumped in the back only to be met by beer cans rolling about in the back. we were told o help ourselves to a few cans which we did and after getting dropped off we drank the cans walking the rest of the way. the next day we learnt that the shop on the island had been broken into and 4 crates of beer had been stolen and did anybody know anything about it. we didn't fancy a visit from our SAS friends so kept quiet lol.
