  I am confronted with an anomaly that I wonder if anybody else has experienced. I am new to the game, playing four months now. As I moved up in tiers and experience I began to experiment with different clubs and balls and made some adjustments as necessary. I recently made another tier advancement and experienced at the same time a dramatic drop in the performance of my irons. For example this evening I was confronted with a 189 yard tee shot for which I selected a 3 iron, which in my “bag” is rated at 196 yards. With a clean hit and dinged shot I was able to get a total of 161 yards. My 5 iron rated at 176 yards now only achieves 160 yards. In summary my irons have each lost approximately 10 yards of distance. I should point out that these irons are not the WGT standard set but a set of Cobra irons purchased early on in my experience and the balls that I am using are Titleist. This anomaly has not affected my woods or wedges which were upgraded several weeks ago. I am beginning to wonder if this is a subtle hint that I need to invest in new irons if I want to return to previous performance levels. Informal chats I have had during HTH matches seem to confirm this. Has anyone else experienced this anomaly and how was it handled? Were new clubs purchased or were adjustments made in club selection?

  i should mention that I play the Mobil version on an iPad. I also religiously clear my device’s cache and reboot frequently.

  You probably need to check your apparel to see what attributes they enhance. Take for example the ugly holiday sweater which enhances iron distance  +16 and iron spin +16. Removing  that one piece of apparel will drastically reduce you iron distance.. 

  The new Boo shirt doesn't enhance anything. 

   

  I just checked the level 8 Cobra Iron set. The 3 iron in that set is rated at 187 yards so the only way it was rated at 196 was  to have had an apparel item that boosted iron distance.

  If you've used some apparel that boosts your spin that can account for yardage drop.

  That’s a thought I had, but the apparel has remained the same. I’ve run across some earlier posts in which members describe the same issue. From what a read, it is common sporadic problem that either clears up over a short period of time or after you throw some money at it. I’ve only been playing four months and just encountered it. I’m still investigating.
