  When I watch the heavy hitters like FMags and Young 46 play on You Tube, when they have most any thing but a tap in putt, they put it in Chip position where it shows  the arc of the ball and they move their aimer according to "whatever" they see.

  I try it and I have no idea what it's supposed to tell me, in other words, just a wate of time for me.

  Am I doing something wrong? How does this suppose to help you line up a putt?

  There must be something to it, because those guys are good players and putters

  Usually when you are looking in putt view, you have a gridline straight down the line of the putt. The moving dots show you the average break over a grid's width so, with a gridline down your putting line, the dots to the left of the line are showing an average break 1ft left of the line, and the dots to the right are showing the break 1ft to the right. When you go to chip/pitch view, or unlock the putting grid, the centre of a grid is usually in your putting line, so is showing the average break where you actually want to know it - generally far more useful. 

  You can also move the grid around in chip view, or with the putting grid unlocked, allowing you to build up a picture of all the relevant slopes on the green. Unlocking the putting green is a relatively new feature, so ageing dinosaurs will tend to use chip view simply out of habit.

  To try it yourself Max, go to Kiawah and use reverse view and chip mode to give you a much more accurate and simplified view of the putting line.

   

  It is particularly useful when smoothing out double breakers.

  I have learned a lot watching young46 videos on putting, chipping, etc.  he has some really good teaching videos.  just go to his profile on wgt and scroll through his blogs or search for young46 on youtube and select videos.

  Wow, thanks so much guys, I have got to work on this and see what I'm supposed to be seeing.

     And,  Mags, I feel like  a Jordan Spieth, Bernard Langer, Dustin or Tiger of WGT golf has gave his best shot at helping me understand why you you guys do this.

      That's funny, when I play real golf, I sometimes hold up my putter , like the pros do, like I'm lining up my putt and I ask my buds, "What am I supposed to be seeing when I do this?"

  They just laugh and say "no idea but you look like a pro doing it, until you putt any way"

  I'm going to go to Kiawah and try it. Or maybe the putting green?

  Go to SEARCH there a lot of good info on[Reading the Break] it may help to know what you're looking for and at for speed and distance

  The bold line finally makes sense out of of some, if not most, of my misreads, I have always thought of the dots indicating break along the line itself not an average of the break over the grid square's area.
