    Calling all Legends,

After reading Iconian's excellent post on "How to play Oakland". I wondered why there isn't similar contributions from the top Legends of WGT for all the other courses.

As In real golf - there are known conventional ways of playing the courses - taking all the idiosyncrasies into consideration that players come onto the course knowing before they even tee off.

I was thinking wouldn't it be great if there were a "How to play" thread for those less talented to refer to for a basis to their game, as It would teach them (of which i am certainly one) the beauty of managing a course, also can serve a an inspiration for creative play.

I've not really thought this through properly and so it may be a bad idea all round.

Its just that many of use approach the game from a one dimensional aspect - try to ding, go straight for the pin - on every hole on every course, regardless of slope etc. Reading Iconian's post opened up a whole new aspect of how one can approach this game, and i thought it might be good to have this kind of post/thread for all the courses on WGT.

    Feedback would be most welcome

    Thanks for reading.

I'll throw in my opinion - it is because it isn't as easy as it sounds to "write a course guide".  Why?  Because it depends entirely on which tee's are being played from, the conditions on each hole, which clubs the player has, what balls they are using, and the green speed.

Iconian's guide was for a set tournament qualifier where each play everyone was off the same tee's, same green speeds, and same (or similiar) conditions.  Even then he had to be general.

From my experience, as I tiered up courses changed.  Not just in length, but how holes could and should be played.  As I changed equipment similiar changes occured.  Some holes got easier, others got a bit trickier.  And once the quick greens came into play, getting the ball to come to a stop near the pin on a number of holes called for quite different shots than before.

    Thanks E,

Guess I didn't think it through - though I guess there's still value in knowing how holes 'tend' to play.

As on a couple of holes Iconian states which holes tend to play longer than expected. Also, he eluded to slopes taking care of part of the shot on a hole or two - it's tips like those that I think can still prove useful for many players - like holes to leave the approach short or long, left or right, as much as i understand your point about the varying nature of the characters of the holes.
