Comeon folks, stop whinning....Let's be honest:
1. Oakmont qualifier is not for everyone. Some of us like to play for low scores while others just enjoy hitting the ball. So, if you find this course tough, MOVE ON to kiawah back or something...
2. Folks are scoring fairly low and even with raptures, you can go 62 and lower. I have done it, so have PRIESTESS with her sexy 60.
3. Your problem is you have 40fters, so ya, if you have those long puts, then you not going to make many of them.
4. Since I am arrogant and consider myself the best thing since sliced bread, I'll break is down for you, hole by hole.
oak: breakdown
1. keep restarting til you get birdie
2. approach with wedge, stay below the hole, if you can't consistently get inside 5ft, then go back to kiawah and practice your wedges
3. hit club lower, if down wind, use bs, if head wind, ns works.
4. hit drive/approac/3rd shot should be just like #2, wedge, if you can't hit to 5ft, go elsehwre
-3 after 4
5 should be a wegdeor 9i in hand, must get close
6. easiest of par 3's....usually can take slope and get close, i consider it birdie 50% of the time
7. is a ***, just play left and par it, usually played 5 yards longer
8. must get on green and rest will take care.. should never be a bogey
9. layup, hit your fav wedge from below and par it
-4 after 9, with luck -5
10, is a birdie hole, approach from rightt with full bs, should be inside 8ft every time'
11. drive/wedge shot, if you dont birdie you, who is to blame by you?
12. 3RD shot has to be short, otherwise it runs down
-7
13. depending on wind, you may try be aggresive or just hit left and par
14. driver/wedge again, if you can't get close, go play TWO
15, hit club shot, right of the flag, and pray you can 2 put for par
16. same as #15 but left of the flag, if you are feeling lucky and good wind, go at it.
17, driver, wedge, same rule as above applies.
18. if down wind, club less, anything else, go at it, worst case you run through into fairly easy chip for par.
so, what does this all mean? simple: there are solid 8 birdie holes and 2-3 more where you can get birdies with good wind.
yes, you will have bogeys, but key is not to have doubles. are you going to birdie those holes every time? no way, but then again, sometimes you might birdie 3, 7, 8, 16, 18 to compensate
here are the keys:
1. if you cannot hit your wedges stiff, you will not suceed
2, if you cannot up and down, you will not suceed.
3. crying over mean greens or <incert topic of the day>, will just make you look foolish.
have a wonderful day!
