Personally, I'm still not sure whether the Callaways are any good or not.  I think we need a study on this.

If someone wants to send me a few dozen Callaways (strictly for "research" purposes of course), I'll gladly compile a really whizzy-looking report for you at the end of it all.

    DarSum:
So the 413 ranked rounds is actually 4,013?

Then yeah because I play about 20/30 -1 challenge matches to ranked rounds, and challenge matches do not count in your stats. Cant help it I like the thrill of the credits.

80 yards yes it was the 170 yard par 3, the one with the bunker in front cant recall exactly which course, not important, about a 10 mile an hour tail wind, I recall that because I had to double check my math. I believe it's 5feet below, but I figured a shot of about 162 would be close enough after I did my math. Selected the 160 yard club and the ball went 234 yards or so into the back bushes without even touching the green. Complete ding on a 160 yard club with a little touch of back spin, may not of been seven iron but it was the 160 club burner 2.0 irons. Might be 6.

I have played them all, found the z better then s

So essentially you are saying that if you miss the ding you are toast with these balls, good advice, because if there was a ding stat i would be awful.

I only ding maybe on a good day 1/2. however with the GI3 I can still get on the green with a missed ding with a save chance. So I might need to make a 12- 20ft birdie with a missed ding, beats a pitch or a chip in my books, as i'm not good enough to hit the ding with regular consistency.

The legend calloways were awsome though and the 6 I played were great while they lasted. I found them very hard to miss.

    YankeeJim:

Or learn that the deviation increases when you use spin and miss the ding. That's the penalty for not hitting them right. Hit them right and there's nothing else here that compares.

So there you have it from the self proclaimed expert, if you miss the ding with regularity, don't use these balls until you become Legend.

It is what it is,  even in real life when you loose a ball it sucks. I have spent a small fortune on the Callaway Z's. For some reason, they do seem to get lost more often. You figure out the reason. I had 43 of the free Dove balls and decided to use them and not buy any more of the Callaways. The first 3 I used lasted the full life and I never lost a one of them. When it was obvious, that I had not spent any money, they started to disappear. The 43 balls were gone in 2 weeks. Many of them lasted 1 shot and were out of bounds or in the water. I managed to get my 2 double eagles and one of my HIO's with these free balls. I have stepped down to the Srixon due to the high cost of the Callaways. Seems I can still lose them too. So like I said, it is what it is.

Uh, erm, can't recall ever proclaiming any such thing. I'll happily back up any factoid I lay out there with some serious experience, though. You obviously missed the part about what it does to the deviation and thought maybe I said you had to ding it. Understandable. ;-)

That wasn't the balls, you just hit the wrong club. On rare occasions the default club keeps popping back even though you change it to a lower one. Impossible bug to reproduce and happens extremely rarely. Hitting 80y long suggests you misclicked the wrong club though.

When it comes to deviations in yardage for Callys, you need to realize that the more spin you have accumulated on your clubs+balls, the more the yardage will vary, especially if you add bs and/or head/downwind, and even more if offding. Personally I stopped playing i(s) for this reason alone and get much better consistency with i(z) (and I try to use less bs as often as possible).

Not surprised that the most expensive ball is the one that seems to work best for me, WGT needs to get credits you know ;)

This is a definite possibility.  I played BPB the other day and forgot my 3 wood.  On #3, 238 from legends I think, I was offerend the driver but selected my 3i instead figuring a touch of t/s and tail wind would get me there.  One sweet ding later the ball lands 125 yards away in the weeds.   I assume my caddie had swapped clubs on me without me noticing and given me my 52 wedge.  I've had it happen quite a few times that the selected club changes but have always spotted it before hitting the ball.  Sometimes it even says putter although the picture is clearly an iron.  Always double check you have the club you want in your hands before swinging.

I find the Callaways amazing. Don't expect the shots to be right on the money when you've switched to new irons and balls.

P.S. I'll happily help feed your MPC hunger. :-)
