The R11's are the better of the 2 sets of irons due to the fact that even though both show high trajectory the R11's fly a little higher and land softer. And as Jim pointed out shortly after they brought them out the 3-5 irons are game changers because with the right spin applied they can stop on many greens that the other iron couldn't. Just this morning I landed my 3 iron on #4 at BPB and stayed on the green. That is the first time ever in around 2 1/2 years. Also at least for me I find I can drop down a club at times and add topspin and get close to the hole where doing that with most of the other iron sets just wouldn't work.

With the 15 yard spacing between the irons and the PW being 120 I dropped the 100 yard Cleveland wedge in favor of the Ping W 105 wedge giving me 15 yard between them. With a little experimenting with the punches I've found that that setup with the 80 yard Cleveland and the 60 yard Cleveland is slight;y better for me than the 100 -80-60 Clevelands.

I been with the burn's 2 for sometime now.  I'm just short of Level 90 and see no reason for the R11 irons.  I have the R11 wood which will cover 225-240 anyday and that makes up for the 3 iron R11 which takes you out to 225 yrds.  This is just my experience.  Happy hunting

I beg to differ, while the r11 3w cover the distances stated, you can not recover from a arrogant drive with a 40-50 lie using it and still make up yardage.  The 3i and 4i will almost give you the yardage it states when hitting it as a punch.  You cannot do this with the 2.0's.

I don't think there's any argument about the R11s being better irons. The question being bandied about is whether to hold out and wait for them or get the Burners in the interim. The sheer quantity of points needed to get from level 87 to level 90 is what makes them attractive to the OP and players like him.

Their question is, is it worth it? I think it is. Steve thought so too-it's Longwedge we're pounding on now.  :-D

I broke down and bought them earlier after careful consideration, and I'm glad I did.  I think they will pay for themselves. I'm a different player with them.  I've now done about 5 practice rounds with them, learning my distances and abilities.  I knew the real test would be Bethpage and I owned it shooting a 28 on the front 9 and a 29 on the back in practice rounds.  My upgrades this week of the R11 3W and Burner Irons will make me a more aggressive player.

Good thread...and thanks to YJ for being so darn pushy

The R11's are pretty special. Nicely spaced and have a 225 iron which comes in very useful. They stop better and perform better out of the rough too. Seems a shame to only keep the Burners for a couple of levels so I suppose it depends on your cash flow.

    ^^^ what he said, lol.

I have the R11's and had the Burner's before.  You can't compare them, the R11's are better spaced with perfect 15 yard gaps and they stop very well, I like that you can take the spin off the R11's and gain 3 to 6 yards in distance and still stop them.  Much like the R11 driver they carry a long way.

So a few days on from aquiring the Burner 2's and what do I think? Well my initial reaction was WTF!!!

However I knew this would happen as it would take time to come to terms with the new irons.

A few practice rounds and a couple of CTH's and I felt more comfortable. The sheer stopping power of the mid to long irons is unbelievable compared to the G10's (L59) that I'd been using.

Don't get me wrong the G10's are very good clubs but not in the same class as the Burners.

Am I glad I purchased them? You betcha I am!
